Snow overview for Austria
Monday 15 December 2014

Most of Austria saw lots of cloud cover on Monday 15th December. There were spots of sunshine peering through but on the whole it was generally overcast. Despite the lack of snow fall the resort teams have been working hard and as a result a large proportion of our featured resorts opened this weekend.

The Zillertal Valley has welcomed the opening of Mayrhofen (0/20cm), Finkenberg (5/25cm), Zell am Ziller (5/15cm) and Kaltenbach (20/45cm). At the moment skiing is limited to on-piste but there are plenty of well groomed pistes. Mayrhofen had a total of seven lifts operating and conditions were quite cloudy, which affected visibility a little. The lower runs are struggling still but the best conditions can be found higher up at the Rastkogel ski area.

The current cloud cover is expected to stay over the next few days but there is light snow fall forecast for the whole of Austria.

Have been going to Soll, typically for long weekends in January, since the late 1990s.
Flying into Munich late and hiring a car. Very straightforward, Autobahn nearly all the way.
We now usually stay at the gasthof badhaus about 2 miles outside Soll.

To pick up on the disappoinments of the previous poster
Yes the skiwelt area is quite low and i wouldn't recommend for reliable snow pre christmas.
however of the 1 5 years i have skied the area ,only once have we been forced to drive elswhere. The higher Zillertal valley is about 30 mins drive

Many miles of beautifully groomed reds. good but not great apres ski, scheffau seems better. all the food is good, but austrian food is seldom haut cusine.

lost of recent investment in new lifts and snow cannot make the Skiwelt area a good bet from Jan to March
