Alastair Sutherland: Ski Club Leader

Member since: December 2012

Alastair Sutherland

About me

Hi. I'm really looking forward to leading for the ski club this season. Last year leading in Zermatt, Saas Fee, and Verbier was a blast I love skiing with different people and having fun along the way. I like to lead co-operative days where we all contribute to the day's decision making so everyone gets a great experience within their own comfort/challenge zone. For Saas Fee this year (Jan 1-14) I hope it will be possible to make a second meeting time for adults to join our group after ski school begins for their children. In my other lives I am a ski teacher, a horse sports coach and horse trainer and sports coach development facilitator and I love salsa dancing and yoga :) Great to see you in Saas Fee :)

best skiing or snowboarding moment

Two rounds top to bottom with a local in Brixental with only one short piste stretch. Skied through farmyards, along roads, places I thought were impossible but I just followed the jacket ahead. An extraordinary random adventure. Thankyou Andreas :)

most embarrassing moment on snow

Travelling with backpack and helmet on, bag dragging, skis on shoulder. Eye contact with a stranger.Thought "be cool". Flicked skis off shoulder, felt cool until they caught helmet strap & brought me & all to ground. She smiled pityingly and walked.

skiing or snowboarding aspiration

Fun and challenge. I'd love to ski more deep powder. Looking forward to touring Haute Route in March. Skiing when I am old like a local in Zell am See who must be ninety but is poetry in motion for his two hours a day.
