Four time Olympian Chemmy Alcott has been appointed the role of Honorary President after several years as an ambassador for the Ski Club.
Britain’s most successful female alpine skier, Chemmy Alcott, has been announced as the Ski Club of Great Britain’s new president. Chemmy takes over the role from BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner OBE who has held the position for 7 years.
Chemmy Alcott said:
“For as long as I can remember I have been involved with the Ski Club of Great Britain. From learning to ski in Flaine over 30 years ago, where the Ski Club had a big presence and their jackets were visible in every lift queue, to being a family member, followed by the opportunity of becoming an Ambassador, it really is the back bone of British skiing, a hub to feel part of this huge winter passion that we have in the UK. Before his untimely death, Frank McCusker asked if I would accept the honour of becoming President of the Ski Club of Great Britain, I was blown away by his belief that I could rise to such an incredible and important role. In part in Frank's honour but also because I want to keep supporting and building on the energy we have created for skiing, especially in this exciting Winter Olympic year, I am absolutely delighted to accept and feel privileged to be part of this fantastic Club.”
Ski Club Chairman Robert Crowder said:
“We are extremely excited to have Chemmy Alcott as our Honorary President. She is such an exceptional role model who has performed at the highest level in our sport. Her infectious enthusiasm combined with the respect and esteem that she holds within our sector will be a great figurehead for the Ski Club.”
