When I started skiing in the 70s, skis were thin & very long, we all aspired to have skis longer than anyone else. Once a passionate, “advanced leisure skier”, I discovered the ski club and found that skiing over 40 need not be all reds, lunch and bar talk of blacks runs. I joined the ski club in 1997, it opened a window to meeting like-minded people who loved the exhilaration of speed and exploring resorts, either on piste or off. I met my wife, Claire, skiing off-piste with the club. Within a couple of years our son Tom arrived, who is now a purple skier. Outside of skiing you will either find me wandering or cycling the Pennines, Derbyshire and Yorkshire dales. I’m an avid cycle tourist, and have cycled all over Europe and America - there are lots more places in my bucket list to explore on two wheels and two skis. I love to ski fast on challenging terrain, especially off-piste, and am looking forward to meeting many more like-minded SCGB members.

Since first skiing in Sauze d'Oulx in 1981 I have skied regularly throughout Europe with friends and family. I love the whole ski experience and having become a Ski Club Leader have had a great time leading and exploring the on and off piste with ski club members; making friends in the process. Great to be back in resort in Mayrhofen and then leading a Freshtracks holiday to Zell am Ziller in 2019. Summer sees me on the tennis court, hill walking or as a Middle Aged Man In Lycra on my road bike. Oh yes; I still have to fit in a bit of work at times.

Dates leading on resort: From: 02/02/2019 To: 16/02/2019
I love being in the mountains year round and most trips end up skiing, trekking or cycling. After this season ends I will be on expedition in remote Amazonian Colombia, then leading small group tours in Kyrgyzstan , Uzbekistan and Bhutan. Trekking in Patagonia should keep the legs fit for the next ski season!

Dates leading on resort: From: 16/02/2019 To: 02/03/2019
Despite the name, I am originally from Kent and a confirmed Southerner. I manage both commercial and residential property to fund my ski trips and between times am a keen gardener and yoga enthusiast. Skiing to me is one of those essentials of life, with my home resort being Val d'Isere, although I also like Austrian resorts, which are very welcoming. One of the best things about being a Leader is having the opportunity to bring so many different people together in pursuit of our common goal....more pow!

Having recently retired I now have plenty of time to indulge in my passion for skiing, especially telemarking. I spent 36 years in the Marines where I learnt to ski, mainly in the Norwegian snowy tundra, on long telemark skis and leather ski march boots. I've now moved into the 21st century, progressing onto carver skis, plastic boots and NTN telemark bindings - free the heel! I'm very much looking forward to leading in Mayrhofen and am busy getting fit to keep up with you all this season. When not skiing I'm either skydiving at Dunkeswell, keeping fit for triathlons, DIY or gardening.

I've always loved skiing since first going as a teenager on a school trip. I've skied almost every year since but only ever for a couple of weeks a year. It never seemed like enough, so last year I worked for a season as a rep for a tour operator in Sölden. I discovered my favourite bit of the job was leading groups out on the mountain. One of my guests turned me onto the Ski Club and recommended the leaders course. Now here I am, excited to get out on the mountain with you all! Oustide of skiing, I've spend most of the last few years riding my bicycle around the world. Before that, it seems like a lifetime ago, I used to work as a software engineer. Haven't decided on the next chapter yet, but one thing I am sure of: It's going to include plenty of mountain time.
