Skiing Today

Skied at Zell Am See today. Best run of the morning was run 13, it was in superb condtions and the scenery on the descent was awesome. Warmed up with a great coffee stop at the Eder Hutte. Had some laughs with the fun park over by the Hochmaisebahn - adultes are just kids at heart! Lunch at the Berghotel and then skied 21 which was so quiet and had just a dusting of fresh powder - we had the mountains to ourselves. Returned home via run 13, tired legs but smiles all round! Another great day in Zell.

Snow overview for Austria

19 March 2018

New snow had fallen over many Austrian resorts on the 19th March, keeping the slopes fresh alongside previous snow that had fallen in the tail end of last week. This, coupled with a noticeable drop in temperatures has delayed the arrival of spring conditions that began to show over the past week. For the most part though, this snow only amounted to light accumulations of 2-5cm reported as of mid-morning, despite the associated cloud cover substantially limiting visibility. Even where no new snow is falling, skies are uniformly overcast across the country with relatively high wind blowing the fresh snow from the tops of slopes in places.  Expect on piste conditions to be firmer this week due to dropping temperatures and an absence of bright sun to soften them up; while the off piste conditions should remain enjoyable across those resorts that have seen snow over the past few days as the tracked snow is refreshed. Elsewhere, crusty conditions are more probable on those slopes that have not seen recent fresh coverage, such as the Gastein Valley and an increasing number of slopes in Salzburg.

The outlook for the coming week looks as if it will continue to feel closer to mid-season than spring, despite heading towards the end of March. Cloud cover will be most prominent towards the East of Austria, though no substantial snow is forecast at all for the coming week if current predictions hold.
