For the 23/24 season, Swiss clothing brand MGG (www.mgg.ski) launched its Ballet’s Back campaign, accompanied by a mesmerising film. Following the huge success of this campaign, MGG ran an event in April 2024 that was attended by 16 former professional ski ballet athletes, among whom two Winter Olympic gold medallists, and multiple World Cup winners.
Ski Ballet Documentary
Director Scott Goedkoop and his team were on hand to cover the event and the lead up to it, and with ski ballet royalty in attendance, many hours of interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and awesome action, were shot by his team of videographers.
Fast forward seven months to this 24/25 season, and with sold out screenings having already taken place in Montreal and London, MGG is incredibly excited to reveal that the Swiss première of their new documentary – Dancing on the Edge: A Ski Ballet Story – will be shown at the Cinéma de Verbier at 13:00 on Saturday 1st March. In due course this documentary will be made available online, so please follow MGG’s Instagram page for further updates over the coming months.
The MGG Winter Waltz: A Ski Ballet Extravaganza!
However, not content with the success of their April 2024 gathering, MGG is now going one better and has planned a much larger scale ski ballet event for the same day, Saturday 1st March: The MGG Winter Waltz. The event will follow the cinema screening of Dancing on the Edge: A Ski Ballet Story, and run from 15:00 to 21:00 on the ‘Les Esserts’ nursery slope in Verbier.
With floodlights illuminating the piste as the evening progresses, there’ll be music, food, drink, and some sensational ballet skiing from ski ballet Winter Olympians, world champions, and many more phenomenally talented former professional athletes – indeed, all four Winter Olympic gold medallists from 1988 and 1992 will be in attendance, together with ski ballet luminaries who invented the sport in the early 1970s! This is THE party of the season that you will not want to miss.
Both the cinema screening and MGG Winter Waltz event will be FREE to attend and will not require tickets (the cinema screening will be first come, first served), and MGG would love to see as many people there as possible. If you can though, please do sign up for the Facebook event – HERE – so that MGG can estimate numbers. If you’re in Verbier or nearby on Saturday 1st March, this is the ONLY place to be!
