Low key and relaxed The 'village' has no focus other than a small shopping mall, but it's a quiet and relaxing place, even if the peace is disturbed by the occasional mile-long train. Up at the lake, it's all about the setting: the scenery provides the charm, and somehow the scale of the giant hotel seems appropriate.

For families

Good facilities

The resort has good school and childcare facilities that have been praised by reporters. The Minute Maid Wilderness Adventure Park is a kids' learning area at the base. The school gets good reviews and offers a fun programme for teenagers.

Apres Ski

Lively at teatime, quiet later

The après-ski dinners plus torchlit descents have been reinstated at Whitehorn Lodge in recent years. At close of play there is some action in the main base lodge, but the hub is the Kokanee Kabin, which has live music most weekends, a terrace and an outdoor fire. Later on, things are fairly quiet. Try the Glacier Saloon, in the Chateau hotel, the Explorer's Lounge in the Lake Louise Inn or the Outpost Pub in the Post hotel.
