Ski area on the side of the active Villarrica volcano in southern Chile, 800km south of Santiago. Lodgings are at Pucón village, 30 minutes away from the slopes. The present lift system was installed between 1988 and 1990 and serves limited terrain for all standards. The climb up to the crater, which requires skins and crampons, takes between two and four hours from the top of the lifts, but it's worth it for the awesome close-up of molten lava.
