The slopes directly above the village are densely wooded, but there are lots of open slopes towards Flaine. Some blue runs involved in the trip to Flaine have tricky steep sections.
Resort altitude: 1120m

Pretty good: the village nursery slopes are quiet and there are also good snow-sure slopes at the top of the gondola, with excellent longer blue runs to progress to.
As our rating suggests, this is a great area, whether you like a challenge or not. Most people can get around the whole Grand Massif area, although the runs back from Flaine involve some blues which are rather busy and narrow.
There are some proper black pistes above Samoëns and in the next-door Molliets valley, but the main interest is the extensive off-piste in various sectors, including the Molliets and Vernant valleys between Les Carroz and Flaine. Don't miss Flaine's Combe de Gers.
