St Martin de Belleville Ski Resort
St Martin is a pretty farming village at the foot of the Three Valleys, with access to the vast linked ski area.
A gondola from the edge of town and a fast chairlift whisk you rapidly up into the heart of the Three Valleys ski area. It is worth staying local however for the long, cruisey blue runs, especially if you're here during holiday season as this is one of the quieter sections of the Three Valleys. The lifts take you to the top of Tougnete, from which you can either drop in Meribel and head towards Courchevel or stick in the Belleville Valley and ski towards Les Menuires.
Unusually for the region, St Martin retains a rustic charm that you certainly don't get further up the valley in Val Thorens. The village centre remains small, with the church acting as a focal point. Fortunately, the main road up the valley bypasses the village, meaning it is nice and quiet and safer for families. There's traditional chalet-style accommodation and a couple of hotels, all of which will be notably cheaper than further up the valley. As a result of its lower altitude, access from Geneva is a little quicker, but the transfer still takes over 2 hours.
