The snowsport community has a history of coming together and raising money for good causes through fun challenges.

Whether it is a race, marathon or trek skiers and boarders raise a lot of money for dedicated charities. Here are some challenges to choose from:

Monster Ski Challenge

The Monster Ski is a three day challenge in Chamonix where the goal is to ski 30,000 ft of vertical decent (the equivalent of Mount Everest every day). This season it will be hosted on the 17-21 March 2019.

The event helps raise funds for people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) through the charity MS Trust. The registration fee is £195 and there’s a minimum sponsorship of £1,500. The registration package includes flights from the UK, transfers, accommodation in a central 2* hotel, breakfast and celebratory dinner and a support team with local qualified guides.

AJ Bell Alpine Challenge

The AJ Alpine Challenge event is another team based challenge in the Portes du Soleil ski area in France and Switzerland. The challenge is to cover all 15 resorts in the area in two days. Each team has four riders and clock over an estimated 150km during the challenge.

The event aims to raise money for Snow Camp, which focuses on giving young inner-city people opportunities to learn life skills through snowsports. Last event raised £50K for the charity. Registration is £100 per person which includes entry, team bibs, GPS tracking, event briefing, BBQ and Mulled wine plus the awards ceremony.

Coeur Blanc

This is a team charity event hosted in Meribel. Teams of four to six skiers have to complete a full journey on 52 lifts in the valley during one day. That works out to be one lift every nine minutes. The longest route taken was 92Kms!

Each year a charity is chosen to raise money for by the organisers of the challenge. Each team has to raise a minimum of £6,000. A total of £1.7 million has been raised for various charities from previous events. Previous charities have included Snow Camp and Guy’s St Thomas Charity. Next year’s event date and charity is yet to be confirmed.

Ski 4 Cancer Everest Challenge

Skiers try to ski the descent of Everest in five hours in the resort of Saalbach, Austria. The event is aimed to raise money for the charity Ski 4 Cancer.  The 2018 challenge cost 10 Euros per entry and it was well attended by the ski community.

Next year’s challenge hasn’t been confirmed yet but you can find more info here.

Iceland glacier trek run a trek across the Langjökull glacier ice cap in Iceland for five days. It’s not your typical alpine challenge but it does include ski trekking across stunning scenery in the Icelandic wilderness.

The registration fee is £475 and you have to raise a minimum of £4,350 for your nominated charity. The whole trip all together is nine days including travel, induction and the trek itself. It’s great for those who want to push the limits whilst raising money for a good cause!

Michi Lederer Rally

This rally is quite simple… first one down the mountain wins! The race is in Alpbach, Austria and is in honour of a local called Michi Lederer that passed away 20 years ago. At the end of each season his family stage the race in his memory. A lot of participants ski in themed costumes or in any contraption that can get them down the hill. Think Redbull soapbox race but on a piste!

This event is optional to enter for charity but does have a 15 Euro entry fee.

Ski Club #Switch180 Ping Pong Challenge

#Switch 180 campaign

Snow Camp launched a campaign where they challenged people to make their own fundraising event including the number 180. Ski Club staff Joe Troman and James Connor played 180 games of ping pong in their ski boots.

The challenge can be ski related too, maybe 180 short swings or runs. All you had to do is set up a fundraising page through the Switch 180 page on the SnowCamp website.
