In ou latest kit & equipment review, Alf Alderson looks at the bold and excellent value Cebe PROGUIDEs.

PRICE: £80

WHAT THEY SAY: "Developed in partnership with the SNGM (French Mountain Guides' Union), PROGUIDE is perfect for all mountain excursions in both summer and winter."

WHAT ALF SAYS: The PROGUIDE has been designed with input from the French National Mountain Guides Association, and with their bright blue and orange frames they certainly make a statement on the mountain.

But it’s not just about good looks and style with the PROGUIDE. They come with really useful, and impressive, fast-acting photochromic lenses (from category 2-4 in 25 seconds). This means they’ll darken or lighten to cover pretty much all the light conditions you’re likely to experience in the mountains.

You can see the obvious input from mountain guides in features such as protectors to prevent sunlight getting in from the sides and narrow little vents at the bottom of each lens to prevent fogging.

The Pro Guide comes with a protective case and soft cloth bag, and they feel great in use; lightweight, comfortable and totally effective at blocking out the sun’s rays from every direction.

FOR: Great design, good value

AGAINST: Nothing (unless you don’t like the blue/orange combo)
