The Hi-Q jacket is not only good looking but is a very effective mid-layer, according to our kit expert Alf Alderson.

WHAT THEY SAY: "A fast drying and highly compressible micro baffled jacket, the Hi-Q Luxe Micro Jacket uses lightweight PERTEX® Quantum fabric with PrimaLoft® GOLD Luxe Insulation."

WHAT ALF SAYS: The Hi-Q Luxe doesn’t just look good, it performs too. It uses PrimaLoft Gold Luxe synthetic insulation which offer a combination of warmth, compressibility and lightness (the jacket weighs 575g) without the disadvantages of traditional down fillings, which cease to perform when wet and take ages to dry. In addition, the jacket has a construction that means the insulation doesn’t become bunched up.

The warmth and comfort factor of the Hi-Q is increased by the soft, highly breathable and fast drying lining, outside of which is a lightweight, windproof outer which has been treated to fend off rain and snow.

Features are fairly minimal (but very practical) in order to minimise weight and bulk. They consist of an insulated, rollaway and helmet-compatible hood, articulated arms, small zipped chest pocket and two larger zipped hand pockets, baffled main zip (as in for heat, not confusion…) and an adjustable hem.

The Hi-Q is a lovely thing to slip into, whether over a t-shirt on a cool autumn morning, over additional layers in winter or as a mid-layer in really cold conditions, and because it’s so light and packable you’ll end up taking it everywhere with you.

FOR: Versatile, practical and good looking

AGAINST: Nothing
