POC continue to produce some great kit according to Alf as he tests the high-performance Super Palm Comp gloves.

PRICE: £140

WHAT THEY SAY: "A performance race glove with a high degree of padding. Provides the best protection for your hands when attacking the gates, thanks to POC’s extremely shock absorbing VPD 2.0 and EVA padding. The cuff can be integrated with our Forearm guard for comfortable, seamless protection that stays in place. Strategically placed side seams and external finger seams for great comfort, durability and grip. Made of Pittards goatskin of the highest quality and with Thinsulate™ insulation."

WHAT ALF SAYS: The Super Palm Comp is a superbly built product which has been specifically designed for ski racing – they’re so nice that I almost wished I was a ski racer so I could justify owning a pair.

The gloves’ racing pedigree is immediately obvious from the moulded EVA foam padding over the fingers and knuckles along with POC’s award-winning, impact absorbing VPD 2.0 compound on the thumb and back of the hand. The padding also has an abrasion resistant surface, which ensures that your hands are well protected no matter how hard you clatter the gates.

The Super Palm Comp offers great dexterity and grip through high quality goatskin palms, fingers and thumb, with all seams strategically placed for enhanced comfort and grip. Thinsulate insulation keeps the cold at bay and this has been specially compressed in the palm to allow better grip on your ski poles.

There’s a super secure neoprene cuff that fastens with a large Velcro loop and is compatible with POC’s Forearm guard, and the overall feel of the Super Palm Comp is pretty bombproof. They also look the business too.

FOR: Superb quality, great protection from both cold and gates

AGAINST: Expensive
