WEBSITE: Giro Zone MIPS

WHAT THEY SAY: "The all-new Zone MIPS features an innovative Hybrid Construction blending a durable ventilated Hard Shell upper with an In-Mold Construction lower shell. Additional sidewalls add protection and style. Zone MIPS is packed with amenities including the new In Form 2 Fit System, a quick-fit Vertical Tuning adjustment system for proper helmet positioning, MIPS technology, fully adjustable venting, an integrated POV camera mount, and Fidlock® magnetic buckle closure."

WHAT ALF SAYS: The Zone is Giro’s top-end helmet and you can tell from the feel and fit. It was one of the most comfortable and user-friendly helmets we tested. The Zone uses MIPS technology along with ‘Hybrid Construction’ which blends the hard shell upper with an in-mould construction lower, to offer excellent protection.

You get both vertical and horizontal fit adjustment, hence the excellent, comfy feel of the Zone, while being able to keep things warm or cool thanks to eleven vents, the upper five of which are adjustable.

The liner is removable, as are the ear pads, and I liked the ‘Fidlock’ chin strap buckle which is very easy to open and close; likewise the goggle strap is really easy to use. You also get an integrated camera mount with the Zone, and it’s compatible with Outdoor Tech’s Giro Audio Systems and offers ‘seamless compatibility’ with all Giro goggles.

Giro say the Zone is aimed at the freeride market, but it has features that will appeal to pretty much any committed skier or boarder - well worth checking out.

FOR: Top design and build; very comfy

AGAINST: Pricey
