What are this season's Ortovox Tour gloves like? Alf Alderson reviews

Ortovox Tour Gloves RRP £85

The Tour features a combination of a Schoeller ‘Naturetec’ softshell outer which is wind and water resistant with a membrane free merino wool lining. They fit very snugly around your fingers and as well as being warm is also breathable, the fabric will wick sweat and doesn’t retain odours. If you have sensitive skin that doesn’t like fleece, merino can be a good alternative.

Soft, flexible goatskin is used on the palms and fingers, with a reinforced wear point around the forefinger and thumb which is the part of the glove that gets the most wear from you pole handles. The vicious pull of a drag lift can often tear that part of the gloves. There’s also a useful little ‘pull-on aid’ on one of the middle fingers that allows them to be taken on and off easily, even with damp hands.

A one-hand elasticated adjustment tightens the cuffs, and there’s an elasticated security loop too. The gauntlet style can technically be worn over or under your jacket cuffs, although it’s quite a slim cut and as such fits better under the cuffs.

FOR Simple design; feel great
AGAINST May not work for you if you like a big gauntlet

Ortovox say:

Made for long climbs! Our new Tour is the perfect companion on your ski tour. A combination of the protective Naturetec Softshell from schoeller® and the finest Merino wool inside make the Tour glove extremely breathable and super comfortable. Merino wool ensures optimal temperature and warms you even when wet. Goatskin leather is used on the palms for durability and a good grip. The grip is also aided by the new punchhole reinforcement in the thumb area. Thanks to the fine goatskin leather on the inside, you can still use your smartphone without a problem. We have also placed pulse protection on the wrist, which not only allows the gloves to be put on and taken off quickly but is also pleasantly soft on your skin. Can be worn for: ski tours where breathability and a good grip are required.
