What are this season's Ortovox Tour gloves like? Alf Alderson reviews
Ortovox Tour Gloves RRP £85
The Tour features a combination of a Schoeller ‘Naturetec’ softshell outer which is wind and water resistant with a membrane free merino wool lining. They fit very snugly around your fingers and as well as being warm is also breathable, the fabric will wick sweat and doesn’t retain odours. If you have sensitive skin that doesn’t like fleece, merino can be a good alternative.
Soft, flexible goatskin is used on the palms and fingers, with a reinforced wear point around the forefinger and thumb which is the part of the glove that gets the most wear from you pole handles. The vicious pull of a drag lift can often tear that part of the gloves. There’s also a useful little ‘pull-on aid’ on one of the middle fingers that allows them to be taken on and off easily, even with damp hands.
A one-hand elasticated adjustment tightens the cuffs, and there’s an elasticated security loop too. The gauntlet style can technically be worn over or under your jacket cuffs, although it’s quite a slim cut and as such fits better under the cuffs.
FOR Simple design; feel great
AGAINST May not work for you if you like a big gauntlet
