We take a closer look at the technical features in Salmon's Chill Out pants

Salomon Chill Out Pants RRP £219.99

Available in seven different colours from bright orange to plain black, the Salomon Chill Out has a relaxed fit and is fully insulated, so if you feel the cold they’re a good option. The outer fabric is water resistant and has a reasonable amount of stretch, further adding to the comfort factor of the Chill Out. You have the option of wearing them with bib and braces or removing this (it zips off) and using a belt, or just making do with the internal Velcro adjusters on the waist.

There’s a decent array of pockets – two zippered handwarmer pockets, a zippered cargo pocket on the left leg and a zippered rear pocket on the right. There is also a fake rear left pocket which balances out the appearance of the pants but is a bit pointless really.

Zippered thigh vents on the outside of each leg reach down to just above the knees which are articulated. The hems feature scuff guards and inner snow gaiters, although they’re not adjustable; but they’re wide enough that getting them over the top of your ski boots isn’t really a problem.

All the above comes together to make the Chill Out a comfortable, no-nonsense pair of ski pants at a reasonable price.

FOR Good range of features on a neat pair of understated ski pants (unless you get them in bright orange or lime green)

AGAINST Nothing much, although the ‘fake’ rear pocket is a bit daft
