Skiing has the reputation of not being a particularly affordable holiday option.

This is especially true if you have a whole family to take, by the time you add on lessons and food on the hill it can cost a small fortune! However, this is certainly not the case in our selection of resorts that have great budget prices.

Money can also be saved on all aspects of your ski holiday if you look in the right places. Whether it’s cheap accommodation, flights, lift pass or ski hire, costs can be cut with a bit of research and planning.

Ski Club members can also cut costs with our many discounts from around the ski industry.

Here’s some of the best budget resorts to choose from:

Slovakia may not be the first destination in mind when you think of ski holidays but there’s plenty of resorts to choose from at great prices. Jasna is the most well-known of the Slovakian ski resorts. With an altitude of 2,024m, the resort also has a good snow record for a small resort. Accommodation, lift passes, and food prices are all reasonable for an easy getaway to the mountains.

The 50km of piste has something for everyone with its varied terrain. Those looking for powder can plunge into the 12 patrolled & in-bound freeride areas for some of the best off piste in the area. In recent years the resort has built 40 cable cars and lifts capable of taking 30,000 skiers per hour, so queues are a minimum.

When you are eating out, there are around 15 restaurants and mountain huts to enjoy the local cuisine or standard burger and chips. For authentic ‘hut cuisine’ try the Klobúk located on slope 13 Biela Pút and enjoy an open fire whilst eating homely traditional cooking.

Cheap flights can be booked through budget airlines if you head to Toulouse, the nearest main airport to transfer from.

The 160km of marked pistes are mostly wide open slopes that are easy to navigate without feeling overcrowded. As for the off piste, the highlights are the challenging Escornacrabes couloirs and some open faces that will get your heart beating for sure.

The culture around the village is a relaxed but historic feel. Go for a PintxoPote feast at the nearby medieval town of Vielha.  Feast on delicious canapes filled with cheeses, sausages, seafood and bread paired with local Cava wine or a beer, all for the small cost of around €2.50. A fantastic social night out!
