The winner of 2018 Best International Festival will be bringing its immersive snow and music experience back to the Swiss Alps for the 16th year this spring

They must be doing something right in Switzerland because Caprices is back once again, providing a star-studded line-up for fans of house, techno and snowsports.

The beautiful resort of Crans Montana is the backdrop for the four day festival from 11-14 April, where revellers can get their electronic music fix across two stages. Big names including Sven Väth, Seth Troxler and Jamie Jones will bring their signature sounds to Switzerland, along with plenty more big names in the business. The two stages include a mountaintop performance area and a more accessible venue located lower down in the car park. Despite the high altitude of the festival, however, it is accessible to revellers with reduced mobility.

Festival-goers can experience well-renowned event brand MDRNTY at their huge transparent marquee where heavy hitters of the dance music world will deliver the perfect soundtrack to your trip. MDRNTY offers music fans unique clubbing experiences across the world, whether it’s perched on top of a mountain with panoramic views of soaring peaks, on a cruise of the Mediterranean or in a huge tent with an immersive light show.

The careful curation of acts along with the locations of the events earned MDRNTY the title of “Best Event” at the Swiss Nightlife Awards in both 2012 and 2014 along with Best International Festival Award 2018 by DJ Awards Ibiza. At Caprices Festival, the tent is located at 2,200m and is light and spacious, with plenty of dancefloor space and seating. Previous editions of MDRNTY have welcomed electronic music royalty such as Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Luciano, Martinez Brothers, Ben Klock and many more.

The second ‘Moon’ stage is located at the foot of the slopes and this location was chosen to reduce the journey time between venues. It aims to deliver more of a big room experience with carefully created sound and visuals using the latest mapping technology designed to enhance your enjoyment of the music and atmosphere. Together, the Caprices stages welcome music fans from all over the world, helping snowsports aficionado take their après game to the next level.

The location of Caprices certainly helps to draw in the crowds year after year. Whether you can ski or not, the setting is a stunning, perched on a plateau looking over the Rhone Valley. With panoramic views and towering peaks at every turn, Crans Montana is the ideal place to kick back and let the music help you relax. The south-facing location means that you are likely to be able to bask in sun all day, and although the heat will affect the snow, the resort is perched at 2,000m and snowmaking systems are on hand to keep those pistes covered. Crans and Montana are actually separate towns, which can be accessed by a funicular railway from Sierre. Over time the towns have almost merged and there are plenty of spas and snowy activities on offer, such as snow shoeing and husky rides. You will also find plenty of culinary delights including Michelin star restaurants and traditional slope-side eateries, keeping you fuelled for the slopes and dancefloors.

Eco-warriors will be delighted to hear about Caprices’ green credentials. The festival has a unique green approach to operations since the idyllic setting of Crans-Montana requires special attention to the environment in order to preserve it. The organisers link with several partners to optimise recycling, sustainable development and waste treatment during the event. There is also a glass exchange policy whereby a deposit is requested for each glass purchased. This is reimbursed when the glass is returned. As the popularity of mountain tourism and snowsports festivals continues to grow, it is reassuring to know that events such as Caprices are making a conscious effort to care for the environment which hosts them.
