Zooming downhill on toboggans is a wintertime classic guaranteed to unite all ages on the wings of speed and snow - at the Lanerköpfl in Niederau or the Schatzberg in Auffach, this is a Ski Juwel must. Get your mitts on a collaborate with your kids the cool way by building your own igloo in Niederau-Wildschönau. Hans Hotter – master igloo builder - teaches you the basics in a few of hours of great fun for all the family. On the Reither Kogel try your hand at being a Piste-Caterpillar Co-Pilot. And atop the Wiedersberghorn, an exhilarating ride through twists, turns and loops of the Lauser Sauser Alpine Coaster await. These two-seater sledges can reach speeds of up to 42kmph descending straightaways, over two jumps and through two 360-degree twists.

Big appetites are part of living the good life in the mountains. When it’s time for a break, tasty authentic Tirolean treats abound at the 25 spectacular mountain huts dotted around the slopes and villages of Alpbachtal and Wildschönau. Dip into some traditional cheesy Kasspatzn hot from an iron pan, or the sweet egg and jam speciality of Kaiserschmarrn, a favourite amongst young and old, locals and guests alike. Great value, all winter long – and children ski for half price!

Open from 6 December 2019 until 13 April 2020, Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau offers the excellent value one-day ski pass in the low season for just €44.50 and €49 in high season. A six-day ski pass for adults in the low season costs €221 and €245.50 in high season -- with children paying only half price. From 21 March-13 April ,2020 children born in 2004 and after and who are accompanied by a parent who has bought a three-day (or more) ski pass, are entitled to a free ski pass. Many services and price reductions are on offer -- including free guided snowshoe walks and free ski bus – when visitors take advantage of the area’s two guest cards, the Alpbachtal Seenland Card and the Wildschönau Card.

For children age four to 10 years, Juppi-Do Centre provides a ski adventure in learning the best way possible – the fun way. Located at the bottom station of the Reitherkogel gondola in Reith, children learn and build on their ski skills with a diverse range of obstacle and jumping courses, choice of ski trails and a smooth magic carpet lift.  The mid-station of Schatzbergbahn gondola, in the village of Niederau and the top of Wiedersbergerhorn Alpbach also boost great beginner’s areas.

Rise from your fluffy feather bed to head up in the morning to the peak of Wiedersbergerhorn above 2,000m. Take the Hornlift 2000 to zoom up to the highest point in the ski resort, soaking in spectacular views across surrounding snow-laden mountains such as Schatzberg and Großer Galtenberg. The red runs No. 43 or No. 44 leads to the Gmahbahn chairlift, a less frequented and well-prepared route. Enjoy a coffee and strudel pitstop – now this is a holiday! -- on the sunny terrace of Dauerstoa Alm or charming Gasthof Hornboden. Meander ever further down along the No. 47 piste to Inneralpbach, the longest run in Alpbach which rolls for a leisurely 4km. Then it’s over the other side of the valley up the Verbindungsbahn gondola to Schatzberg and time for a lovely lunch at Restaurant Gipföhit, know far and wide for delicious Tirolean dishes and top service. Try the sunny and wide pistes on the Schatzberg such as the piste No. 12 Gern. …don’t miss the panorama from lucky Piste 13 Wurmegg, and a last descent to Inneralpbach where the day is crowned with a frothy beer hand-brewed by the jolly Jos Moser at his one-man beer brewery, Kristallbräu.
