Icelandic people are known for their eccentricity and this trip certainly breaks the classic ski trip mould.

If you prefer staying within the safe confines of a purpose-built resort in a well-trodden mountain range, then you should stop reading now. However, if you are in search of a once in a lifetime adventure, then this truly unique skiing experience offered by Freshtracks could be the perfect end to your season.

Iceland is a land like no other, the worlds of fire and ice collide to create a truly dramatic landscape, and snow-covered terrain that is begging to be skied on.

Everything about this trip oozes adventure, independently travelling from the metropolis of Reykjavik to the remote Akureyri where you will be transported to the quaint and quirky accommodation. The Brimnes Lodges in Ólafsfjörður serve as the base for this one of a kind adventure. The traditional wood cabins are a halfway house between a mountain hut and a chalet. Simple, but comfortable these cabins have everything you could possibly need for a week of touring, including high speed internet connection. And we wouldn’t offer a trip to the land of fire and ice without making sure there was a geothermally heated hot tub – perfect for reviving tired legs. The all green powered tub is particularly popular with guests, Will who explored the peninsula with us last year noting ‘The hot tub was a godsend - it can be cold in Iceland!’

The setting for this trip is Dalvik, on the Troll Peninsula. The area in the North of the country is known for its varied and inviting terrain as well as it’s snow security. Within spitting distance of the Arctic Circle, this area experiences an exceptionally long season allowing for skiing well in to June. At 65.9707° North the sun barely sets in Dalvik in June, allowing for ski tours to be completed under the midnight sun. Without having to worry about fading light, the amount of distance covered each day is almost limitless!

Your IFMGA Qualified Guide and host for the week, Bruce Goodlad, will explore the surrounding area with the group often skiing from fjord edge to peak and back down again. Bruce, who has worked with the Ski Club for many years and runs trips all over the world for Si Club Freshtracks became the Ski Club’s Alpine Safety Advisor at the start of the season, so there is no one we can think more suitable for our most adventurous trip.

This trip is not for everyone. For starters you must already be a purple standard off piste and own a full set of touring kit as there is no rental shop in resort. The holiday also requires a certain amount of ‘mucking in’ from guests, so you will have to help a little with the cooking and washing up – a small price to pay for a genuinely unique escape from the cookie cut resort ski holiday.

Find out more about this incredible trip which departs on 26th May on the Ski Club’s ‘Ski Under The Midnight Sun’ holiday page or speak to one of the friendly team on 020 8410 2022 or email

NB due to the limited accommodation on offer booking closes on the 31st of March.
