For the first time ever, Ski Club is giving off piste enthusiasts the opportunity to explore the North American freeride destinations of Breckenridge and Crested Butte, all in one trip

If you are an advanced off piste skier looking to test your skills in the backcountry, our new trip links two resorts renowned for their extreme terrain, providing plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself in deep powder.

The trip will start in Breckenridge where skiers will explore the domain for five days. The resort has a huge range of steep, advanced terrain across five peaks which are suitable for experts. 34 lifts give access to plenty of powder-filled bowls and ungroomed black runs across 3,000 acres. The resort also features the highest lift in North America, the Imperial Express at 3961m. One of the most exciting elements of North American resorts is the off piste policy. Whereas anything outside groomed pistes can be at risk of avalanche in Europe, everything within bounds is closely monitored and deemed safe by the ski patrol. It won’t all be groomed, but it is a playground waiting to be explored.

Breckenridge itself is known for its good service and infrastructure, a quality typical of North American resorts. It’s a picturesque genuine western gold mining town dating back to the 1850s and your accommodation at the Breckenridge Village Hotel is perfectly positioned near the lifts. It is also located next to the main street where you’ll find lots of shops, bars, and a lively après scene. One of the first five days will be spent cat skiing in nearby Keystone where skiers can unleash their inner powderhounds across the ungroomed steep bowls and forest glades of three mountains.

The final five days will be spent over at Crested Butte, where the pace of life is a little slower. The village has a laid-back feel and like Breckenridge, it also has wood panelled shop fronts which are brightly painted and almost resemble a western movie. You will leave the relaxed pace firmly in resort however, as the days will be spent charging around the varied and exciting terrain, leaving plenty of powder trails in your wake. All activity will be undertaken alongside a Ski Club Leader, who will help skiers discover the best routes around the backcountry. As a guide for fitness, if you are considering one of our North American holidays, you should be physically able to ski all day with an hour’s rest and competent with completing 15-20 dynamic turns at a time. The Freshtracks team will be able to give more advice on fitness requirements and Ski Club standards/profiles.

The trip price includes 12 nights bed and breakfast plus all transfers between hotels and cat skiing. Find out more about the trip on our online brochure page here. Freeriding is an exhilarating side of skiing but like any other high octane sport, it does come with some risks. You can find out more about ski club insurance here.
