Off piste adventures await on this whistle-stop Freshtracks trip

Powder hunters will enjoy the Swiss delight that is Andermatt. Freshtracks have a guided Off Piste Weekend with a guide that explores some of the most challenging and enjoyable terrain in Europe that will leave you both exhilarated and grinning from ear to ear.

Despite being a small village nestled high in the Urseren Valley, Andermatt is not short of big terrain, with a plethora ofthrilling off piste to discover. On top of this, Andermatt has a great reputation for generous snowfall making it one of Switzerland’s best backcountry destinations, a must visit for freeride fanatics!

The Gemsstock mountain, which towers above the Andermatt village, has many different descents with a variety of challenges. The ‘Felsental’ descent has many different routes leading to a wide couloir back to the Valley Station, perfect for easy access. The Guspis itinerary is just under 10km in length and has a dramatic descent plunging into a long valley back to base.

Another descent is the quirky named ‘Giraffe’ (looks like a Giraffe on a map), this is a real challenge and requires local knowledge to tackle the route. From the get-go, the couloir at the start is very steep and there are no escape routes once on the descent.

All these descents should be tackled with an expert guide. On this Freshtracks trip, a qualified guide is provided for all three days and will have the local knowledge to find the best conditions in a safe area.

Even though Andermatt has fantastic skiing available, it is one of the quieter resorts and is almost a hidden gem. Don’t expect rowdy après or hectic lift queues at this Swiss resort; think a relaxed beautiful area perfect for those who truly want to test their skiing to the limits.

After a hard day skiing off-piste, members can enjoy the 3-star Hotel Sonne in a peaceful location to unwind. The family-run hotel is perfectly located metres from the Gemsstock Cable Car, which is fantastic to get on the slopes quickly. There’s also a free shuttle bus to access other lifts around the area. Local delicacies are served in the hotel’s restaurant each evening, which is the perfect way to refuel and share tales of the day with fellow Ski Club Members.

The Andermatt Off Piste Weekend is £799 and includes three nights half board in the 3* Hotel Sonne, twin share, return scheduled flights, coach transfers, 3 days with mountain guides and a Ski Club Leader.

The Andermatt Off Piste Weekend runs from the 13th-16th December 2018, so book now!
