Special experiences to relish at the highest skiing destination in the Alps

Matterhorn ski paradise

The highest skiing area in the Alps with guaranteed year-round snow is also one of the largest and best-equipped ski arenas anywhere in the world. And it isn’t just the hardcore skiers who get their money’s worth on the 360 kilometres of varied slopes. Beginners and families will also feel at home in Zermatt as they thrill to the view of the breathtaking mountain scenery around the iconic Matterhorn. Children up to the age of 9 get to use the lifts for free, while beginners can buy special ski passes for the “Wolli Beginners Park” and cut their first tracks in the snow on the "Slow Slopes".

There are numerous other attractions to round off the Zermatt experience. Early mornings have a special appeal around Zermatt. With “First Track” you can practise your skiing glides on untouched slopes while enjoying the first sun of the day. After a guided descent you will be happy to indulge in the rich breakfast buffet offered at the Matterhorn glacier paradise restaurant. On evenings lit by the full moon, the “Moonlight Descent” will take you into the snow-filled world of the Rothorn, preceded by a fortifying traditional dinner in cosy surroundings. The romantically moonlit slopes and refreshing night air will make this guided descent an unforgettable experience. The Gondola Fondue is the perfect combination of typical Swiss delicacies, a gondola floating on high and a picturesque Alpine panorama with the Matterhorn as the centrepiece. In the gondola, the beautifully laid table is waiting for you and your loved ones. You set off for the peak, lit by the last rays of the setting sun. First, try the choice of local specialities as starters. On to the main course, the traditional Swiss cheese fondue with special bread from the region. The meal reaches its irresistible finale with a selection of fine desserts accompanied by a Valais digestif. Between courses, there’s plenty of time to raise a glass of regional wine – and toast the shared pleasure, the view and the truly special moment.

Matterhorn glacier ride
The world’s highest 3S cableway will carry you to Matterhorn glacier paradise at 3‘883 m/12‘739 ft. It isn’t just the peak that will take your breath away, the ride up there is an adventure in itself. The 25 cabins, each with 28 seats, ensure the trip is extremely comfortable. Designed by Pininfarina, renowned for its work with Ferrari and Maserati, the cabins are not only comfortable, they also look fabulous. The huge picture windows offer a breathtaking all-round view of the Matterhorn, the glacier world and the surrounding panorama.

A combination of thrill and luxury
The Crystal Ride cabins are the absolute highlight of this 3S cableway. The cabins are encrusted in thousands of Swarovski Crystal Rocks that sparkle like freshly fallen snow. But the real secret is revealed about three minutes into the ride. With the cabin floating high above the glacier, the glass floor clears, opening up a view onto the ice mass 170 m below. It feels like flying.
