At The Ski Club, we pride ourselves on working with those at the forefront of the ski industry to provide quality advice and guidance, so it’s only right that we practice what we preach.

Last week, one member of the Ski Club staff visited Europe's highest Alpine resort, Val Thorens, to experience an absolute bargain of a ski holiday with our Flagship Partner, Sunweb.

With Sunweb’s #LastMinutes deals, we were able to book just four weeks ahead of our departure date, meaning we could asses the snow conditions across the Alps and choose our ideal resort. After an unseasonably warm February, we settled on the snow sure Val Thorens, the highest resort in Europe.

The Sunweb Group is one of the biggest tour operators in Europe, sending over 1 million customers on holiday each year. The number of apartments and hotels Sunweb work with is vast, so once we knew that Val Thorens was our destination, it was only a matter of filtering our requirements to find the perfect place to stay. Sunweb's size also means that their price points are low, so if you’re new to skiing or just looking to book a quick and easy trip to the mountains, Sunweb is a great option if your budget is tight.

Whether you need to book a whole holiday in one hit or are just looking for one or two elements, Sunweb offers as much or as little as you require, so if you want to book your flights and transfers through them it’s just another step on the user-friendly website. The website lets you chose specific flights for your convenience and clearly displays the different price options. As we were all members of the Ski Club, we decided to book an accommodation-only package and instead claimed our £25 discount with SWISS Air.

Every Sunweb holiday includes the local lift pass (I know!), and for only £68 we upgraded our passes so we could access the full Trois Vallées. If you’re going to France and chose the ‘flight+transfer’ option, ski hire is included for free; a game changer, especially for families. With an already healthy discount of up to 30% courtesy of Sunweb's #LastMinutes promotion, we utilised our Ski Club membership once again to claim a further 5% off Sunweb's total, compounding our saving and allowing us a little extra pocket money for our trip.

We were picked up from Geneva by transfer company, Ski-Lifts, of course using our 10% Ski Club discount. A text was sent through to us the day before travel, to let us know the name of the driver who would be meeting us, the location and at what time. After a smooth two and a half hour transfer up to resort, with a quick sundries pit-stop at Carrefour supermarket to pick up some goodies for our self-catered apartment, we met the Sunweb guides at the local bar. Here, we collected our Trois Vallées lift passes and chatted through the various Sunweb activities throughout the week; a pub crawl, fondue with a torch-lit descent, breakfast at 3,000 metres, spa tickets… to name a few!

As we were self-catered, we’d sorted a welcome hamper with Huski; an ingenious company who deliver food and wine to your door, Ski Club members can access a 15% discount with the company. This meant that our first night’s dinner was on the table within an hour of walking into our apartment and that we had fresh pastries and baguettes ready for the following morning (team favourite: the Chicken and Ham pie)!

The forecasted warm weather and blue skies were in full bloom for the first day of our trip, fortunately staying with us for the whole week. Our apartment, being ski-in-ski-out and just a stone’s throw away from restaurants and bars, was the perfect location for our group of keen (who enjoy a few beers at apres)! On a Tuesday afternoon, for a bargain of £20 each, we joined the Ski Club’s Instructor-Led Guiding service for a spot of off-piste where the Evolution 2 instructor took us off the back of Val Thorens into Orelle. Despite there having been no new snow for two weeks, Cyril, our instructor, knew where to find the secret stashes and we were skiing in soft powder, something we hadn’t expected when we flew out!

We finished our holiday with a satisfying tartiflette at the local restaurant, but we also felt fulfilled by the service we received at every point during our holiday, from the booking process, the lead-up and during our stay. Having experienced Sunweb firsthand, we’re prouder than ever to be in partnership.

There are still plenty of #LastMinutes deals to be had for what’s looking like a great end to the season, not only in terms of snow but also Sunweb perks!
