Tignes and Val D'Isère together form the impressive Espace Killy, one of the worlds most renowned and popular ski resorts - and for good reason. The ski area is huge and caters for all abilities but advanced skiers are really spoilt. One of the main benefits of the area for freeriders is that it is at the end of the valley and the scope beyond the resort boundaries is seemingly never ending. And once you move away from the pisted areas you soon find yourself in a true mountain environment in a quiet and majestic wilderness normally reserved for the abundant wildlife. Particularly late season you are likely to spot a few of the locals - marmottes, chamois and even (spotted by a Ski Club group last April) a bearded vulture.
At the end of the day and back in the resort, the Opera chalets are conveniently located close to the pistes in Tignes Le Lac (a good 5-10 minute walk from the centre) with plenty of bars and restaurants cater for most tastes and budgets.
It's also worth noting that the swimming pool is excellent and free with your lift pass.
