The Monterosa ski area is nestled in the heart of the Italian Alps and is made up of the three principal resorts of Alagna, Gressoney and Champoluc, all traditional and charming villages.
Amongst serious powder hounds, the Monterosa Ski area is renowned for its extensive off-piste, however it is yet to make its way to the mainstream market. This means the slopes remain quiet during the week, with plenty of untracked powder runs to be found.
Gressoney is the centrally placed resort in the three-valley Monterosa ski area, and widely considered one of the most scenic in the Aosta valley. It's even quieter than Champoluc, and rather more attractive: a traditional, neat little village, with cobbled streets and wooden buildings. Not commonly featured by UK tour operators; making it more likely the area will retain its unique character.
