This trip is an opportunity to experience one of Austria’s best kept secrets - the phrase ‘small resort, big terrain’ has never been more relevant. Tour an unexplored corner of Austria, escaping the crowds of nearby resorts. The famous mountaineering village is at the base of the Grossglockner, where the pioneering spirit of the early alpinists is still palpable, and you are never more than a stone’s throw from your next outdoor adventure.
ON SNOW EXPERIENCE
You’ll be spending 6 days skiing with local mountain guides, who’ll showcase the best of the area. You’ll use lifts to gain height then will set out on day tours most days – unless you hit a full week of powder.
This trip is aimed at Advanced (Purple) and Expert (Gold) off piste skiers and touring enthusiasts. If you are unsure of your ski level, please see our Ski Profile Page. At the end of the week, you’ll receive an updated grading from your guide or Ski Club Rep.
The 4* Hotel National Park Lodge Grossglockner is located in the heart of Heiligenblut. You’ll be staying for 7 nights on a half board basis. You are welcome to kick back and relax in the wellness facilities, and indulge yourself with the excellent food, served by friendly hosts.
This holiday is on a twin share basis. If you are a solo traveler, then you will be placed in a room with someone of the same gender. Single rooms may be available upon request. These are subject to our hotel room allowance. If you require a single room, please book early to avoid disappointment.
Scheduled return flights with British Airways from Heathrow to Salzburg are included in the trip. Ski carriage is payable at the airport only and cannot be pre-booked. Your Ski Club Rep will coordinate the transfer when you arrive at Salzburg airport. Please meet them in the main arrivals hall - they will be wearing their blue Ski Club jacket.
If these arrangements are not convenient, you can organise your own travel and may be eligible to receive a nominal discount from the holiday cost. Furthermore, if you can find alternative flights that coincide with our flight times, then you can meet the group at the airport and take our transfers to resort. Please do not book any alternative flights or travel until your holiday has been confirmed to run. Please contact the Freshtracks office on 020 8410 2022 in order to discuss this further.
The ski area itself has 12 lifts and 55km of pistes plus a freeride arena comprising 1,500 hectares. Split into six freeride sectors the area offers multiple opportunities including four marked routes. On a powder day, this is where you'll spend most of your time. The resort is also the starting point of many high alpine ski tours to 3,000m summits. The area has a wild feel, and there is a good variety of terrain to challenge advanced and expert off piste skiers. For more information on Heiligenblut, please visit the Heiligenblut Resort Page.
If you require ski hire, we recommend Intersport Grossglockner. This is located within a 50-metre walk from your hotel. Ski Hire can either be pre-booked online, or you can organise this in resort with the help of your Ski Club Rep.
