ON SNOW EXPERIENCE
You will spend your time skiing with your Ski Club Rep and local mountain guides. You will have a total of 5 days skiing, with an additional optional day of skiing mid-week. There is also the option to visit the Hakuba Snow Monkey Park on this day – should you wish to rest your powder legs!
This holiday is profiled for advanced (Purple) to Expert (Gold) off piste skiers. The trip will have an active focus on off piste tree and powder skiing, often requiring short ascents. Due to this, the trip will require a good level of fitness. You do not need to have advanced touring skills knowledge, however a basic understanding of ski touring and the use of avalanche safety equipment is required. If you are unsure of your ski level, please see our Ski Profile Page. At the end of the week, you will receive an updated profile from your Ski Club Rep.
You will meet your Ski Club Rep in the arrivals hall at Tokyo Narita airport in order to take the transfer to Hakuba resort (approx. 4 hours). Here, you will spend 7 nights in the Hakuba Matata Lodge. The lodge is located in Echoland, a 15-minute walk to Happo One and Hakuba 47 ski resorts. There is also a handy free ski shuttle service that stops right outside the lodge, accessing a variety of resorts within the valley. The lodge comes with a small private onsen (natural thermal bath), offering the perfect chance to relax after some serious ski days!
A hot breakfast will be included each morning with the chance to try out the local cuisine in the afternoons and evenings. The lodge is an approximately 10 minute walk from local bars and restaurants.
You will spend one night in Tokyo before your flight home. Please contact the Freshtracks office on 020 8410 2022 for more details.
A set group transfer will take you from Tokyo Narita airport to the lodge in Hakuba. Please request the suggested flight times from the Ski Club office, as your flight will need to arrive in plenty of time to make the group transfer. Your Ski Club Rep will be in the arrivals hall, wearing their blue Ski Club jacket.
There will be the chance to visit to the Snow Monkey Park mid-way through the week should you wish to explore the beautiful Japanese landscapes around Hakuba. Although transport to and from the park is not included, your Ski Club Rep will be able to assist in making these arrangements.
A set group transfer will take you from Hakuba to Nagano station, where you will catch Japan's famous bullet train service (the Shinkansen) back to the capital. Here you will spend one final evening with the group before making your own way back to the U.K. A great opportunity to explore the famous city and maybe check out the local karaoke bars!
Hakuba is home to a vast ski area, offering ten different resorts included in the Hakuba Valley lift pass. You will split your days exploring some of these ten resorts with your Ski Club Rep and expert local guides. Hakuba offers more terrain, vertical drop and challenging terrain than any other resort in Japan, with jagged peaks towering to almost 3000m! The town has a great atmosphere, with a wide range of bars and restaurants. There are western options as well as the opportunity to sample some excellent Japanese cuisine and traditional izakayas (Japanese bars).
There are a large number of local onsens in the resort also. The onsens are highly respected areas in Japan, so please be aware of local customs before entering these areas. For more information about Hakuba, please visit the Hakuba Resort Page.
Please speak to the Freshtracks staff about hiring equipment in resort. You can contact them on 020 8410 2022.
