If you want to dust off those cobwebs after the summer, Pre Season Progression is a great chance to warm up your ski legs with five full days of ski instruction. Val Thorens has a resort altitude of 2300m and a high point of 3230m and is not only the loftiest of the Trois Vallées ski area but also the highest in the whole of Europe. As one of our first trips out, it's got a great record of snow cover from as early as November, so no need to worry about that early season gamble. This trip covers a breadth of ski abilities (which is complimented by terrain that will suit everyone) so it's a great choice for that warm up trip to prepare you for a great season. This holiday comes with flights and transfers where you will be joined by other Ski Club members and hosted by your Ski Club Leader who will help navigate the journey.
The family run Hotel le Sherpa (3*) allows you to ski right to your front door. On your return, you can choose to try out the new 'cosmic' sauna; a panoramic outdoor sauna on the terrace of the hotel with direct views of the slopes. We recommend heading down for sunset! Otherwise you can enjoy the traditional sauna, Hammam steam room and Jacuzzi.
This holiday is on a half board basis so you can choose from a varied breakfast buffet each morning and dinner will be traditional French cuisine. Attempt to work your way through 5 whole courses prepared by the friendly staff.
On Snow Experience
You'll be coached by one of the BASS (British Alpine Ski School) instructors for five full days. The BASS team are experts in their field and consistently receive great feedback from our members. You will be skiing full days from 9am until 4pm (approximately) with some time to purchase your lunch on the mountain and enjoy a coffee before heading back out. Ski Club members love to ski so be ready to give those legs a test and earn yourself a pat on the back for a day well skied.
Groups will be organised based on the ski level you provide so make sure you are sure of your ability (if you are unsure, see our Ski Profile page) and there will be room to manoeuvre through these during the week. You will receive a grading from your instructor or Ski Club leader on completion of your week to help you book your next trip.
This holiday includes group flights and transfer. The groups flights are with Swiss International from Heathrow Airport Terminal 2.
Transfers to/from resort will be in a private coach and will take 2.5-3 hours.
If these travel arrangements are not convenient you can organise your own travel and receive a nominal discount from the holiday cost. If you can find alternative flights that coincide with our flight times then you can meet the group at Geneva and take our transfer to resort. Flight schedules can be searched on www.skyscanner.net.
Val Thorens is the highest resort in the Trois Vallees area and also gives access to Courchevel, Méribel and Les Menuires. It is known for being snow sure early on in the year and that guarantee continues throughout the season promising great skiing for all levels. Everything from beginners to expert is catered for with the core of the terrain being aimed at the intermediate/advanced level.
Val Thorens marries together luxurious hotels and gastro eateries with affordable self catering spots which makes for a great mixture of skiers and boarders and a real buzz in this popular village.
The resort itself was one of the purpose built developments that rose in the 70s, but since then most of the more ugly apartment blocks have given way to more traditional accommodation and the resort has morphed in to one of the more picturesque and sophisticated of it's kind. It's spot, nestled in the Belleville Valley, means that if you get out on your balcony in the early morning, you'll be greeted to one of the most spectacular winter panoramas in the alps.
If you need to hire equipment then you can prebook via Ski-Set through the Ski Club website, where you can get up to 25% discount. Choose Val Thorens - Snowberry or Goitschel Sports 1, which are approximately 200-300m from the hotel.
