The Shiro is another huge ski, which is obviously focused on big mountain skiing. However it’s progressive rockered shape and reinforced construction is designed to be able to cope well with the groomers. The Shiro feels very easy to manoeuvre, the full length rocker allows it to be steered quickly, and speed can be shut instantly. In fact it was a great ski to use in the trees, where it had lots of float for the powder, but could get you out of a tight spot easily. Most Volkl’s of this size are normally hardcore pieces of kit, however the Shiro is surprisingly forgiving. On harder snow it struggled to find grip, with the fat shape and rocker not really giving the contact needed. However, as a freestyle, backcountry piece of fun, it was brilliant.

Al Morgan
Volkl skis normally suit strong or heavy skiers but this is playful and allows you to always be perfectly centered
Anthony Swallow
Versatile and nimble, great for slashing powder
