They say

The Mantra has had a long and successful history with Völkl, this winter there has been a complete redesign. The new Mantra now has full rocker and a flat camber. It also has more width, coming out at 100mm underfoot with an early taper through the shovel.

We say

As expected this feels completely different to last year’s Mantra. The new rockered shape makes it an easy ski to steer, while the typically complex Völkl construction gives the ski a classy, damped, beautifully made feeling to it. On the piste it performs really well, with tenacious edge hold and a smooth ride that raises confidence at speed. Moving into deeper, off piste conditions the flat camber and rockered shape give help in making the Mantra maneuverable and make it good fun to use, however it felt like the shovel needed more width to get extra float. Overall, this is a massive change from last year’s ski, which feels much easier to use, yet still grips well on hardpack.

Tester Comments

Pete Davison
Great on the piste, good on the steeps, could use better fore/aft balance in deep snow.
Mark Jones
Much easier than last year’s Mantra, but still has power and grip when needed.
