They say

With their great performance to weight ratio, these skis are phenomenal Hybrids, perfect for powder skiing and freeride touring.

We say

The Backland is exceptionally forgiving in deep powder. The rockered tip floats up really quickly, while the tail allows for easy adjustment when finishing off the arc. It’s a ski that feels totally confidence inspiring in any type of backcountry conditions, you can just get on and ride up to your full capabilities instantly. On harder conditions on groomed runs, it has a nice reactive sidecut and can give out solid grip, although it does have limits at higher speeds. Judged purely on ability, the Backland would be one of the better skis we tested within this category, but factor in the great value price and it’s a winner!

Great price to introduce skiers to freeride, tuning needed more base bevel
