This emerging ski nation is home to the incredibly picturesque Tatras mountains, pretty tree-lined ski resorts and excellent value accommodation. Most of these ski areas are very small and snow reliability can be an issue, but the main resort of Jasná doesn’t suffer from the same problems. Instruction is cheap, the lift pass is excellent value and access from the UK is surprisingly easy.
Jasná is a truly international resort, with a world-class lift system and snowmaking facilities, plus a raft of very affordable, high quality hotels. There is some great skiing on offer here and for the price of having a small self-catered apartment in France for a week, you could easily spend a week in a smart, 4* hotel luxuriating in the spa at the end of the ski day.
Access to Jasná and many of the other resorts is via the small airport in Poprad, with a short transfer making Slovakia a convenient destination.
