Due to the Coronavirus situation, all Ski Club on snow activities, including Freshtracks holidays, Rep service and Instructor-Led Guiding are now cancelled for the season.
I started skiing in my early 20's and have managed to ski most years since then, mainly in Europe but occasionally in America or Canada. I enjoy skiing both on and off piste, and have had a foray into Telemarking and off track Nordic skiing. I joined the Ski Club to take advantage of Freshtracks holidays and subsequently utilising the previous Resort Leader services. I have recently had the opportunity to join the Leaders course and am now looking forward to giving something back to the club with the reformatted Resort Rep service and taking opportunities to ski with like minded people in resort. Outside skiing I enjoy hill walking and have this year taken up mountain biking. This is providing a real challenge is but helping fitness for the forthcoming season!
I was a late starter at skiing, being 30 years old when I first took to the slopes. Initially learning the snow plough turn and stop on the carpet at Hemel Hempstead (now a smart snowdome of course) before learning to ski in Les Arc.
Since then I have tried to get as many weeks and weekends skiing as my family and work would allow. I have been fortunate with some of my career choices, which have enabled me to ski in some fantastic resorts around the world in Europe, USA and the Southern hemisphere. I have even skied in Beirut!
Being a Ski Club Leader enables me to share my passion for skiing and have a lot of fun with like minded people.
It is a great regret that at 38 I was rather a late starter to skiing but have tried to make up for lost time since, managing to fit in two or three weeks a year since. I particularly enjoy the challenges of off-piste but any day on the slopes is a good one. My favourite ski area is the Jungfrau, particularly Grindelwald with its fabulous charm and setting beneath the North face of the Eiger.
Off the slopes I enjoy walking the Manx hills with my wife and dog Georgie, I also compete in Enduros (cross country motorcycle races) and ultra long distance race walking.
Been skiing for over 40 years and still enjoying this marvellous Alpine Sport. I have skied in various places over the world from Obertsdorf in Bavaria to Crystal Mountain in Washington State USA and the Monashees in BC Canada. As a PhysEd graduate and Former RAF officer I have enjoyed instructing, guiding and participating in alpine racing when I was a good deal younger!! I qualified as a Level 2 BASI instructor over 16 years ago and have also participated in ski touring in Norway including a 3 day tour which involved a night's snow-holing!! I enjoy the mountains and the ski resort atmosphere and look forward to the 2020 season. Hopefuly I will be repping with the SCGB next season. Looking forward to seeing you on the mountain.
I practice Homeopathy and the Bowen technique in and around Birmingham.(Bowen technique is a light touch therapy very good for skiing injuries etc ) Don't let the health stuff put you of, I enjoy a laugh and a good drink like most leaders.
