Due to the Coronavirus situation, all Ski Club on snow activities, including Freshtracks holidays, Rep service and Instructor-Led Guiding are now cancelled for the season.
I have been skiing since the age of 14 or was it 12? So long ago I can't remember! Never happier than when in the mountains with good company, some of my best memories and many of my friends have come through skiing.
I have raced all through school and university days and still enjoy recreational racing. For me, giving something back to the sport I have had so much enjoyment from is really important and through 2015 / 16 I was privileged to coach a young woman to success in the Special Olympics in Serre Chevalier. My enthusiasm for skiing is only surpassed by my sense of humour and I look forward to sharing some great times in the mountains with Ski Club GB members.
Meeting new people, making new friends, having great experiences in the outdoors - What could be better?
I am fortunate to have learnt to ski at school in the 1970's, and have continued to do so ever since including resorts in Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, North America and Canada.
My passion is skiing, but I am also able to snowboard and therefore understand some of the terrain to be best avoided on a snowboard.
My home is in North Yorkshire and my other interests include keeping fit, mountain biking, golf and off-shore sailing.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing some laughs!
P.S. I enjoy the Apres Ski.............
I first skied in Aviemore, aged 14 – a two-day weekend by overnight coach from London – and was hooked! However, I didn’t ski regularly until my mid-20s. After that most of the holiday budget went on skiing virtually every year. I am lucky to have a wife and grown-up children and a granddaughter who all love skiing as much as I do. 18 years ago, we discovered ski touring and did the Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route which we repeated in 2016 with our daughter. Apart from the obvious joys of skiing, I have loved introducing my family and friends to the sport – especially discovering the added dimension that off-piste opens up. This year, I am looking forward to repping in Serre Chevalier and back again in Murren. I enjoy a good lunch as much as a non-stop day with a baguette on the gondola! I live in Dorset with a bridge-playing wife, a springer spaniel and several chickens. At home, when not working, I enjoy fishing, tennis, walking (Inca Trail last Summer) and paragliding.
I love the outdoors, and the combination of snow and mountains creates a special attraction. For many years I have introduced friends and family to skiing, helping them to develop and share in a great sport and environment. I saw being a Rep as a chance to meet new people, make friends, and share this passion.
My other passion is rugby, which I played for over 30 years, and have also coached and refereed.
I also enjoy scuba diving, which I have pursued in many countries, and one of the most interesting was an ice-dive at Tignes-le-lac.
I'm a fashion designer and have been making gloves that don't keep you warm but look cool! I'm now in the throes of making a gorgeous ski glove that will suit skiers and apres skiers alike! Hope to have this launched for next winter www.corneliajames.com
I live near the South Downs in East Susex and am still on my first husband! We have 3 children, Leonora, Freds & Nic who can ski the pants off me and constantly keep me on my toes!
I've really enjoyed all disciplines of skiing for over 50 years, and first joined the Ski Club in 1986. I am now doing my utmost to make winters mostly “on” skis and a few years ago switched completely to the Telemark discipline - just so much fun and style. My aim is to encourage the fun and adventure for all. At the moment, I really enjoy the Jungfrau region and its main resorts of Murren, Wengen and Grindelwald. The scenery there is outstanding with the fabulous mountains very close - and the skiing is excellent as well.
I am in Murren in late March and will react to weather conditions and other opportunities such as meeting up with other ski clubs, ILG in Wengen and heli skiing with a guide. Hope to see you at the Eiger social hour each evening. Free the Heel.
