Colorado still remains the place to be when it comes to November skiing in the USA. Numerous resorts are open, including Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountain. These are set to be joined by Vail and Steamboat at the weekend, with freshly groomed slopes and mostly sunny skies the order of the day. A few snow showers are possible on Saturday, but otherwise cool and sunny weather is expected – good news for snowmaking.
Elsewhere in the west, as is usual, we’re mostly still waiting for other resorts to open up – which is usually around Thanksgiving (28th November), so keep an eye out for updates in next week’s snow overviews. After this weekend however, you will be able to ski at two resorts in California, Mammoth and Squaw Valley.
Across on the East Coast, bitterly cold weather and in places more than 50cm of natural snowfall has really boosted things after a slow start to the winter. Huge piles of manmade snow are now in place at many resorts, waiting to be groomed out into ski trails. Good conditions can be found at Killington and Sunday River, but head to Jay Peak in Vermont for the best snow when it opens at the weekend – they’ve almost 3 feet of snow this week!
