Commitments

In order to implement this policy the Club will:

• Promote and prioritise the safety and well-being of children, young people and adults at risk
• Value and listen to children, young people and adults at risk
• Adopt appropriate safeguarding practice through our policies, procedures and codes of conduct
• Ensure members of Council, staff, reps and volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities in respect of safeguarding and is provided with appropriate learning opportunities to recognise, identify and respond to signs of abuse, neglect and other safeguarding concerns relating to the beneficiaries
• Provide effective management for members of Council, staff, reps and volunteers through supervision, support, training and quality assurance measures so that they know about our policies, procedures and Code of Conduct and will follow them confidently and competently
• Put first the well-being of those at risk of harm. Adults will be actively supported to communicate their views and the outcomes they want to achieve and their views and wishes will be respected and supported unless there are overriding reasons not to
• Ensure appropriate action is taken in the event of incidents or concerns and provide support to the individual(s) who raise or disclose a concern
• Cooperate with the Police and relevant authorities in taking action to safeguard a person
• Ensure that confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and that all information is securely stored, in line with data protection legislation and guidance
• Share information about anyone found to be a risk to children or adults with appropriate bodies, including the Disclosure and Barring Services, Police and social services
• Adopt reasonable and proportionate procedures to prevent the employment or engagement of unsuitable persons as members of Council, staff, reps, volunteers or third-party service providers (e.g. mountain guides)
• Appoint a nominated safeguarding lead and a lead member of Council for safeguarding
• Make sure that all members of Council, Club members, staff, reps and volunteers, know where to go for help if they have a concern

The policy and procedures developed by the Club from time to time will be widely promoted and are mandatory for the members of Council, Club members, staff, reps and volunteers. Failure to comply with the policy and procedures will be addressed without delay and may ultimately result in the dismissal of staff or the expulsion of members from the Club.

This policy may be amended or replaced at any time.

Monitoring

This policy will be reviewed at appropriate intervals, if there is a change in applicable legislation or guidance, or as a result of any other significant change or event.
