Most major Austrian resorts had some open terrain over the weekend and Monday saw a good dump of fresh snow for the vast majority of Austrian resorts, seeing even more lifts open up as we moved into December. One of the largest snowfalls was in Ischgl and 84cm of snow is expected over the next 6 days which will likely mean an almost full complement of lifts are open very soon - 32 of 41 lifts are already open as of today.
Excitingly over 80cm of snow is expected to fall in both Lech and St Anton over the next week. This is much needed with only around a quarter of lifts open in both resorts currently. Over the next week or so the ski season should really get going in both resorts.
Great skiing can already be found in Obergurgl and Sölden and a smattering of new snow over the next few days will only improve the ski conditions in the area. To the east of Austria the snow cover is not as plentiful and only 9 out of 49 lifts are open in Kitzbühel. It is a similar story in Zell am See with only 5 lifts open.
The forecast is for sunny days and freezing nights in most Austrian resorts until Friday this week, ensuring that there will be some great conditions on offer if you are heading to the Austrian Alps. Most of the forecasted snow will fall towards the back end of the week.
