Reit im Winkl Ski Resort
Small Bavarian ski resort with access to the Steinplatte ski area over the Austrian border.
A short drive or bus ride from the village is the Winklmoosalmbahn gondola, which whisks skiers up to the Steinplatte ski area above Waidring and its 42km of well groomed pistes. The ski area suits beginners and intermediates best, with little in the way to challenge experts, but is served by a good lift system. Snow reliability can be an issue, but the northerly aspect and comprehensive snowmaking coverage have helped with this a lot.
The Bavarian village of Reit im Winkl is pretty, sitting in a tree-lined valley right on the German-Austrian border. There's a nice range of family-run hotels and guesthouses in town, providing a good range of accommodation. Away from the slopes, cross country skiing and winter walking are very popular activities.
