As a lad, I was fortunate to participate in school ski trips to Pertisau and Gotzens in Austria - and thought it was the best thing ever. However, career and mortgage took over and it was some considerable time before I managed to find the opportunity to have another go. Following rediscovery, I have been striving to make up for the 'wilderness' years ever since. I particularly enjoy piste performance skiing and have a soft spot for Austria, Switzerland and Italy.

I learnt to ski in Scotland age 7 and have skied with family and friends all over Europe. My kids are now at University – so I can ski more! My favourite runs are the wide black pistes at Hogegga in Trysil – groomed in the morning and bumpy by the afternoon, but I get equal pleasure from bouncing in fresh powder snow and am looking forward to sharing this joy with other keen skiers. In my day job I am a knee surgeon in Somerset and enjoy cycling, occasional golf, and keeping control of two very busy cocker spaniels.

I have been a ski lover for more than 35 years, shunning summer holidays just waiting for the snow to arrive. I have skied extensively in Europe, the US and Japan. my favourite skiing is in the USA. I love to ski off piste and I am always on the hunt for fresh tracks. I like a bit of cycling to keep the legs in shape. I also love classic cars and motor sport. I am looking forward meeting and skiing with members in Ischgl in February 26 and repping a holiday in Obergurgl in April.

Been skiing since 91 (late starter), with the Club since 2006. Looking forward to some social skiing this year, always have Fun on and OFF the slopes. Not sure what this year holds yet, but I'm on course (as usual) to ski every month of the season. Starting with a drive to Morzine Avoriaz with friends over New year. Baqueira in January, was last there in September on a motorbike! February and a large group of friends and neighbours are off to Selva Val Gardena, probably be my last trip to Italy now they have made helmets compulsory. Easter is looking like a drive to Flaine with a group of friends. that just leaves March!

My passion for skiing all started when I was twelve years old on a two week school trip to Davos back in the 70’s - on mini-skis. Being caught in a small avalanche did nothing to deter me and I went on to race in the Royal Navy ski team and take my instructor’s ticket. I met my wife on the slopes of Wengen, but had no idea at that time that I would end up with Swiss nationality, an avid off and on piste skier with over 250 weeks under my many pairs of skis for over five decades, now based in Zürich. Skiing and snowboarding both on- and off-piste has kept me in top condition both physically and spiritually to this day. I bet you are building a similar story, so come ski with me and we can share our passion!

I learnt to ski by attending school ski trips as both my parents claimed to be allergic to snow. Luckily I do not seem to have developed this allergy from them. Over the years I have worked in a ski shop, washed dishes for a season in Val d’isere, as a geography teacher led school ski trips to Italy, USA and Canada, became a BASI instructor and briefly sat on the Schools technical committee for Snowsport England. Now retired from teaching I have the opportunity to spend more time in the mountains, learning more about skiing and meeting new people who share the same passion.
When not skiing I enjoy cycling (current challenge to cycle around the coastline of the UK, bit by bit), canoeing and walking. Generally anything that gets me out in nature. I am looking forward to skiing in the mountains with you and making new memories.

Everything you need to know about Freshtracks holidays.
What is a Freshtracks holiday?
Freshtracks holidays are group ski trips organised by the Ski Club of Great Britain for solo travellers, couples, and friends who want to ski with like-minded people. We offer social skiing, instructional, off piste, and touring holidays. On all holidays, a dedicated Freshtracks Rep will be on hand to make sure the holiday runs smoothly.

Are single rooms available?
Single room availability will be shown in the "View Dates & Prices" tab on each holiday page, located under the holiday name. If single rooms are available, this will be clearly stated there. If no single room option is listed, unfortunately this means they have already sold out.
Sometimes we can request additional single rooms from the hotel. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
When will I receive my final holiday itinerary and information?
This information is usually sent out 7-10 days before departure. It will include your final itinerary, Freshtracks Rep contact details, and any important information relating to your transfers, flights, and accommodation, depending on what is included in your specific package.
I am unsure of my ski profile. How do I know what profile I am?
Freshtracks holidays use a ski profiling system to ensure you’re skiing alongside members of a similar ability, creating well-matched groups and a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
We recommend reviewing our Ski Profile page and selecting the profile you feel best represents your current skiing. The profiles are there to help us place you on the right holiday, so please choose honestly to ensure you get the most out of your time on the slopes.
If you’ve been on a Freshtracks holiday before, your Rep will give you an official grading at the end of the week. This will be recorded on our system and available to view in your Ski Locker.
Do I need to be an expert skier to join a Freshtracks trip?
No. Freshtracks holidays cater to a wide range of skiing abilities, from early intermediates to advanced skiers. Each trip includes detailed information about the recommended ski level so you can choose the right holiday for your ability.
I'm a solo traveller. Would I be suitable for a Freshtracks holiday?
Absolutely. The majority of Freshtracks guests travel solo – in fact, 85% of our guests last winter were solo travellers.
Our holidays are specifically designed to help you meet other passionate skiers and feel part of the group from the start. Group dining, organised skiing and fun social activities all help to create a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, making Freshtracks an ideal choice for anybody travelling alone.
Are lift passes and ski rental included in the holidays?
Ski rental is not included on Freshtracks holidays and is arranged separately. That said, Ski Club of Great Britain members enjoy access to a number of ski hire discounts, which can be found on our Discounts page.

Please note that inclusions differ by holiday when it comes to lift passes, so it’s important to check the Essential Info tab beneath the holiday title, as well as the "What’s Included" and "What’s Not Included" sections at the top of the holiday overview page.
I have a group flight included. How do I check in?
For Freshtracks holidays that include group flights, it is not possible to check in online beforehand. You simply need to turn up to a manned check-in desk with your passport on the day, where you will be checked in and issued with a physical boarding pass.
Make sure you read the full travel information in the Travel tab and, once you have booked, keep an eye out for your final information document. This will provide further details on your baggage allowance.
If flights are included, can I bring a ski bag?
Ski carriage cannot be pre-booked and is payable at the airport.
We are ATOL and ABTOT protected so you can book with confidence knowing your money is secure.
Our holidays are a great way to meet and ski with other members of a similar ability to you.

4* Sunstar Hotel
The Sunstar Hotel is located in a peaceful setting, near to the local bus stop that takes you directly to the slopes. You can relax in the indoor pool, sauna and steambath, while after dinner the Chami bar serves great coffees, or something stronger if that takes your fancy! This holiday is on a single occupancy basis. You will therefore be placed in a room on your own for the duration of the trip. If you would prefer to share a room with someone you know, then please contact the Freshtracks office and we will make the relevant arrangements.

Your Ski Club Reps will coordinate the coach transfer from Zurich Airport, so please look out for them in the main arrivals hall (they’ll be wearing their Ski Club jackets). Transfers to and from resort will take approximately 2 hours.
If these arrangements are not convenient, you can organise your own travel and may be eligible to receive a nominal discount from the holiday cost. If you can find alternative flights that coincide with our flight times, then you can meet the group at the airport and take our transfers to resort. Please do not book any alternative flights or travel until your holiday has been confirmed to run. Please contact the Freshtracks office on 020 8410 2022 in order to discuss this further.

What You Need to Know
Ski Hire/Equipment
We have two recommended shops in Lenzerheide. One is All Mountain Sport, located next door to the hotel. As a hotel guest you’ll receive a 10% discount.
An alternate option is Pesko Sport, a 5-minute walk from the hotel. This can be pre-ordered via their website – Pesko Sports.
Lift Pass
Lift passes are included in the cost of this holiday, so there is nothing you are required to do ahead of departure. They will be handed out by reception on arrival.

Hotel Proximity To The Lifts
The hotel is conveniently located a short 3 minute bus ride from the lifts ensuring easy access to the slopes each day.
Insurance
It is a condition of booking that you have valid and adequate snowsports insurance. It is your responsibility to ensure your policy provides cover for all the activities that you participate in during your holiday.
The policy of insurance should provide cover for personal injury, death, medical and repatriation costs in the countries which you intend to visit, together with cover for loss of baggage and valuables, personal liability, delay, cancellation, curtailment, missed departure and legal expenses. The policy should also include cover against losses caused by the effects or consequences of Covid-19.
Due to the type of holidays that you will be booking with us, we also advise that your policy should include skiing off-piste without a guide. Please note, insurance premiums must be paid at the same time as booking in order for the package holiday or single service cancellation cover to be effective. It is also advised to keep your insurance details with you while you are on your holiday. If you choose to travel without adequate insurance cover, we will not be liable for any losses howsoever arising, in respect of which insurance cover would otherwise have been available.

Passport – Check your passport is in date and valid for travel by checking the entry requirements for your destination country – you can see these here: Foreign travel advice – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
For most European destinations your passport should:
- have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
- have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen area
Check your passport meets these requirements before you travel.

Off Piste Safety
When venturing off piste, it is compulsory to wear an avalanche transceiver. These can be provided by the Ski Club and should be worn by every person on every all mountain, off piste and touring holiday. Anyone joining these holidays will also be required to bring their own backpack, shovel and probe.
Terms And Conditions Of Skiing With The Club.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Any Member wishing to ski/snowboard with a Ski Club Group, in any of the resorts where the Ski Club is represented, agrees to do so under the following conditions:
- You appreciate that the Ski Club Rep is a volunteer with no formal qualifications as an instructor or mountain guide.
- You also appreciate that no other member of the group undertakes any obligations to you concerning your safety for which you remain solely responsible.
- You must ensure that your equipment is in good working order before setting off for the day and that you are suitably clothed for the proposed itinerary and all possible weather conditions.
- You must decide whether or not a particular run or route is within your competence.
- You must ensure that you are properly equipped for that day. If you are skiing off piste you must have a shovel, probe and transceiver, and know how to use them. If you are using a Ski Club transceiver, it is your sole responsibility to know how to use it.
- It is your sole responsibility to ensure that you are suitably insured for the activities intended to be undertaken.

The valley features two main bases, Lenzerheide and Valbella on the opposite side of Heidsee Lake, with chalets and small family-run hotels scattered throughout.
To the west lies the main area of local slopes, a network of blues and reds linked by fast lifts, and to the east lies steeper slopes – including the World Cup Downhill run – and crucially the link up and over to Arosa. All of the major lifts in the valley are linked by a regular, free bus service which makes getting around easy. The best way to experience this fantastic resort is with Ski Club Freshtracks this winter, on one of our two Luxury Lenzerheide trips.
