On Snow Experience
Known as a paradise for backcountry skiers, Senja is one of Norway’s most spectacular ski touring destinations. With remote and challenging terrain, striking slopes emerging directly from the fjords and the very real possibility of witnessing the Northern Lights, this is a bucket list adventure like no other. Six days of expert guided ski touring will take you deep into Senja’s remarkable backcountry, with top mountain guides on hand to ensure you get the most from every day on the mountain. Your base throughout is the charming Torsken Brygge – a beautifully renovated 1930s seaside pier offering modern boutique rooms right on the Arctic fjord. Unwind in the cosy waterfront lounge, enjoy a drink in the authentic historic pub, and soak in the breathtaking fjord views after a day on the mountain. An opportunity to immerse yourself in the raw beauty of Norway’s coastal summits this winter, this is an opportunity you won’t want to pass you by.
This trip includes six days of off piste skiing and touring with experienced guides. You’ll be guided by Senja by Heart. You’ll be split into groups of 6 based on your ski profile. This holiday is aimed at Silver Plus and Purple off piste skiers and will require a relatively good level of fitness and at least a weeks touring experience. It is essential that guests have the correct ski profile for their holiday, please see the view all the tabs at the top of this page for more information. My time spent in Austria as a child on family ski holidays ignited my passion for the mountains. When I said to my brother early on that I wanted to be a ski instructor, he scoffed at this and said that I couldn't make a living from it. Since leaving uni I slipped back into where my heart lay and have been working on and off in the Snowsport's industry ever since. I started working as a ‘Pisteur Secouriste’ in France in 2007, later aided by my beautiful furry pal, Fjord the flat coated retriever, trained and qualified in Avalanche SAR. No longer with us he remains in the hearts of many having been such an incredible soul, and now lives on in my children's book 'Fjord's Mountain Mission'.
I'm a powder hound, 'scuse the pun, but equally I love sliding off into the backcountry to ski tour in the folds of nature's arms. I really enjoy being with others who are keen to share the mountain experience and at the same time respect this unique environment. Maybe see you one day à bientôt!

Everything you need to know about Freshtracks holidays.
What is a Freshtracks holiday?
Freshtracks holidays are group ski trips organised by the Ski Club of Great Britain for solo travellers, couples, and friends who want to ski with like-minded people. We offer social skiing, instructional, off piste, and touring holidays. On all holidays, a dedicated Freshtracks Rep will be on hand to make sure the holiday runs smoothly.

Are single rooms available?
Single room availability will be shown in the "View Dates & Prices" tab on each holiday page, located under the holiday name. If single rooms are available, this will be clearly stated there. If no single room option is listed, unfortunately this means they have already sold out.
Sometimes we can request additional single rooms from the hotel. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
When will I receive my final holiday itinerary and information?
This information is usually sent out 7-10 days before departure. It will include your final itinerary, Freshtracks Rep contact details, and any important information relating to your transfers, flights, and accommodation, depending on what is included in your specific package.
I am unsure of my ski profile. How do I know what profile I am?
Freshtracks holidays use a ski profiling system to ensure you’re skiing alongside members of a similar ability, creating well-matched groups and a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
We recommend reviewing our Ski Profile page and selecting the profile you feel best represents your current skiing. The profiles are there to help us place you on the right holiday, so please choose honestly to ensure you get the most out of your time on the slopes.
If you’ve been on a Freshtracks holiday before, your Rep will give you an official grading at the end of the week. This will be recorded on our system and available to view in your Ski Locker.
Do I need to be an expert skier to join a Freshtracks trip?
No. Freshtracks holidays cater to a wide range of skiing abilities, from early intermediates to advanced skiers. Each trip includes detailed information about the recommended ski level so you can choose the right holiday for your ability.
I'm a solo traveller. Would I be suitable for a Freshtracks holiday?
Absolutely. The majority of Freshtracks guests travel solo – in fact, 85% of our guests last winter were solo travellers.
Our holidays are specifically designed to help you meet other passionate skiers and feel part of the group from the start. Group dining, organised skiing and fun social activities all help to create a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, making Freshtracks an ideal choice for anybody travelling alone.
Are lift passes and ski rental included in the holidays?
Ski rental is not included on Freshtracks holidays and is arranged separately. That said, Ski Club of Great Britain members enjoy access to a number of ski hire discounts, which can be found on our Discounts page.

Please note that inclusions differ by holiday when it comes to lift passes, so it’s important to check the Essential Info tab beneath the holiday title, as well as the "What’s Included" and "What’s Not Included" sections at the top of the holiday overview page.
I have a group flight included. How do I check in?
For Freshtracks holidays that include group flights, it is not possible to check in online beforehand. You simply need to turn up to a manned check-in desk with your passport on the day, where you will be checked in and issued with a physical boarding pass.
Make sure you read the full travel information in the Travel tab and, once you have booked, keep an eye out for your final information document. This will provide further details on your baggage allowance.
If flights are included, can I bring a ski bag?
Ski carriage cannot be pre-booked and is payable at the airport.
We are ATOL and ABTOT protected so you can book with confidence knowing your money is secure.

Flights are not included for this holiday, but a return group transfer will be arranged to/from Tromsø Airport on the departure date, and back to Tromsø Airport on the return date. Please see our recommended flights below:

Transfer Times
Your included transfer will depart Tromsø Airport at approximately 14:00 on the outbound journey, arriving in Senja at around 17:30. On the return journey, you’ll depart Senja in the morning, arriving back at Tromsø Airport at approximately 15:00.
Alternative Flight Advice
If you’re not flying to or from London, we recommend flying via Oslo, staying overnight both before and after the trip, and then booking onward flights to Tromsø that arrive and depart at similar times to the group’s flights. This will allow you to meet the group and join the included transfers with minimal disruption.

Your Ski Club Rep will co-ordinate the transfers, so please look out for them in the main arrivals hall. Please do not book your flights until the holiday has been confirmed to run, you will receive confirmation via email.
Your rep will create a WhatsApp group well in advance of departure. This will make it easy to coordinate meeting at the airport, share any travel updates, and stay in touch with the rest of the group before and during the journey.

What You Need to Know
Ski Hire/Equipment
Ski equipment can be hired, but you will be required to bring your own backpack, shovel and probe, the Ski Club can provide transceivers. You will need to notify us in advance if you do require rental before booking, and we will confirm this with the guides.
Lift Passes
Lift passes will not be required for this holiday as it will all be touring based.

Insurance
It is a condition of booking that you have valid and adequate snowsports insurance. It is your responsibility to ensure your policy provides cover for all the activities that you participate in during your holiday.
The policy of insurance should provide cover for personal injury, death, medical and repatriation costs in the countries which you intend to visit, together with cover for loss of baggage and valuables, personal liability, delay, cancellation, curtailment, missed departure and legal expenses. The policy should also include cover against losses caused by the effects or consequences of Covid-19.
Due to the type of holidays that you will be booking with us, we also advise that your policy should include skiing off-piste without a guide. Please note, insurance premiums must be paid at the same time as booking in order for the package holiday or single service cancellation cover to be effective. It is also advised to keep your insurance details with you while you are on your holiday. If you choose to travel without adequate insurance cover, we will not be liable for any losses howsoever arising, in respect of which insurance cover would otherwise have been available.

Passport – Check your passport is in date and valid for travel by checking the entry requirements for your destination country – you can see these here: Foreign travel advice – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
For most European destinations your passport should:
- have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
- have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen area
Check your passport meets these requirements before you travel.

Off Piste Safety
When venturing off piste, it is compulsory to wear an avalanche transceiver. These can be provided by the Ski Club and should be worn by every person on every all mountain, off piste and touring holiday. Anyone joining these holidays will also be required to bring their own backpack, shovel and probe.
Terms and conditions of skiing with the Club.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Any Member wishing to ski/snowboard with a Ski Club Group, in any of the resorts where the Ski Club is represented, agrees to do so under the following conditions:
- You appreciate that the Ski Club Rep is a volunteer with no formal qualifications as an instructor or mountain guide.
- You also appreciate that no other member of the group undertakes any obligations to you concerning your safety for which you remain solely responsible.
- You must ensure that your equipment is in good working order before setting off for the day and that you are suitably clothed for the proposed itinerary and all possible weather conditions.
- You must decide whether or not a particular run or route is within your competence.
- You must ensure that you are properly equipped for that day. If you are skiing off piste you must have a shovel, probe and transceiver, and know how to use them. If you are using a Ski Club transceiver, it is your sole responsibility to know how to use it.
- It is your sole responsibility to ensure that you are suitably insured for the activities intended to be undertaken.

Holiday Itinerary
This itinerary is intended as a guide to give an overview of the trip, and some fine details may be adjusted slightly.
Upon arrival in Tromsø, meet your Ski Club of Great Britain Representative and transfer to Senja. The transfer departs at approximately 1400 and takes around three hours, with arrival in Senja expected at approximately 17:30. For more information on recommended flights please go to the travel tab.
After your first night at Torsken Brygge , enjoy breakfast before meeting your guides for a short briefing and setting out on your first ski tour. Over the next six days, you’ll explore the very best of Senja’s spectacular coastal mountains, with your expert guides selecting the best routes and snow conditions each day. Expect unforgettable ski touring, rewarding descents and breathtaking views over Norway’s dramatic fjords and surrounding peaks.
All meals are included throughout your stay, giving you the chance to relax and refuel after each day in the mountains. On two evenings, you’ll also have the opportunity to unwind in the sauna and jacuzzi, and with Senja’s remote location and dark Arctic skies, you may even be treated to the unforgettable spectacle of the Northern Lights dancing overhead.
After an incredible week exploring what Senja has to offer it is now time to head home.
Your transfer will depart Senja at approximately 1200 ensuring you arrive at the Tromsø airport for approximately 1500. For more information on our recommended travel information please go to the travel tab.
