I grew up learning to ski in Scotland – unbelievably from the age of 2 – and I can honestly say that the first few years of skiing didn’t always fill me with joy. Soon my family discovered the Alps - sunshine, proper uplifts and Swiss chocolate made all the difference. Now at a later stage in life, I still love it! When I was younger I raced at a junior level in the UK and then for various university teams – including in the USA. I am still quite fast and can beat my children down a red slope if I really want to. Mostly I take it easy as I have to accept that I probably don’t bounce back as well as I used to.

My dad was a ski-mountaineer so we did some quite exciting hut to hut tours in the Alps and lots of off-piste skiing. I had a brief foray into cross-country skiing in my twenties with tours in Norway and France – but you can’t really beat downhill skis when faced with some untouched powder.

When I arrive at a resort I want to explore the whole lift systems – I like to plan a journey for the day and find places that others might have missed. One of my favourite things to do is to get to the highest point we can and then ski to the lowest without taking any more lifts. I also like finding the highest café at the end of the day, having a last hot chocolate or a vin chaud, and skiing down on the empty pistes watching the light change on the mountains as the sun goes down.

I look forward to getting to know you all and figuring out how we want to ski together. At the ski club we welcome all levels of skiing and it’s good to take a day or two to find our ski legs before we take on more challenges. Once we are warmed up and ready to go the mountains are ours! See you all very soon.
