Keystone

The resort of Keystone is a great base from which to explore fantastic local terrain as well as other ski areas in Colorado’s Summit County.

  • Keystone is home to some of Colorado’s best family friendly slopes, as well as perhaps its best night skiing operation.

In addition, the upper bowls, accessed via short hikes or a snowcat, are home to endless steep lines, which regularly remain untracked for longer than at some of its neighbours. Easy access to the nearby resorts of Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin is possible, both of which are only a free bus ride away and are covered by the same lift pass.
The resort itself is quiet and is generally only busy at weekends when the crowds arrive from Denver. This usually means queues are not an issue, but it does mean that the après ski and evening scene is quiet – although this is no doubt partly due to the resort’s family-friendly reputation.

    On the Slopes

The 3148 acres of ski runs, glades and open bowls extend over three mountains.
Dercum Mountain is the main ski hill and is home to the most variety of terrain. The long Schoolmarm green is popular amongst beginners, Spring Dipper is a winding and often immaculately groomed blue, the Peru Express accesses Keystone’s world-class terrain park for freestylers and the Go Devil black is an excellent tree-lined black for experts.
North Peak is accessed by the Outpost Gondola or via sweeping blues and blacks and the Santiago Express chairlift. From here, the third and highest sector can be accessed at the Outback Express. Some great tree skiing is on offer, or if you’re willing to hike or can catch the snowcats running to the top, there is access to some of Colorado’s best bowl skiing – which tops out at a lofty 3782m in Independence Bowl.
