Macugnaga’s skiing is divided into two sections – the Belvedere area and the Monte Moro area.
Beginners should start off in the Belvedere ski area which is largely made up of easy runs. Alternatively there are a couple of beginners slopes in the Monte Moro area. Intermediates and advanced skiers should head to the larger Monte Moro area. A two stage cable car takes skiers and boarders up to a collection of long red runs which are perfect for intermediates. Experts have three black runs to choose from or an excellent array of off piste. Guides can also take skiers over to Saas Fee.
There are many hotels and apartments to choose from in Macugnaga – these are located in Staffa and Pecetto. There are seven airports within three hours drive of Macugnaga, with Milan the closest at an hour and a half drive away.

A more mixed week for much of Italy as the expected snowfall moves in from the north and west, as opposed to the south and east as it has for much of the rest of this season. This will still mean good snow for western areas, especial those in the northwest close to the Main Alpine Ridge – around 2ft of snow is expected down over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. This will mostly fall on higher ground as the freezing line remains around 2,000m, dropping as the week continues and taking a long walk off a short pier over the weekend, when it will hit sea level.
Friday will see an easing in the snowfall but flurries will continue over this day and Saturday. As this cold weather moves in on Sunday, conditions will remain fine, dry and bright throughout potentially making for excellent skiing conditions now that the new snow has had a chance to settle.
