There's three main ski areas rising out of the valley above the town of Oppdal, Vangslia to the west, Hovden in the centre and Stolen to the east.
The former is definitely suited best to beginners and early intermediates, plus it has its own base and range of accommodation at the base. Hovden and Stolen have steeper slopes, including a number of blacks, some mogul runs and their World Cup racetrack. Off the back of the ski area there are numerous ski touring options – hire a local guide and they’ll take you to the best spots.
For accommodation there are two options – either staying at the foot of the Vangslia lifts (the best option for families) or down in the small town of Oppdal itself. Here you’ll find a good range of facilities, from supermarkets to cafes and restaurants, giving you the option to self-cater if you wish. Away from the slopes, cross country skiing is very popular, as is snowshoeing.
Getting here is easy, with a two hour transfer from the airport in Trondheim.

Southern areas experience mild conditions over the course of this week, with a mix of sun and cloud dominating. A few bursts of rain move across the region, ocassionally falling as snow as temperatures cool off overnight.
Through the middle of the region and along the Atlantic Seaboard, mild conditions quickly cool off, with steady flurries of snowfall across the central mountains and Finnish Lapland. The middle of the week then sees a return of mild conditions to these areas.
