Risoul is a purpose-built village, located right at the foot of the main access lifts.

The linked ski area with the neighbouring resort of Vars is extensive, snowsure and served by 43 lifts. Unfortunately only 8 of these are fast so getting around can take a while, although recent upgrades have made a big difference in certain key sectors. That being said, the slopes offer great variety. The runs immediately above the resort are gentle greens and blues, whilst further up at the Pointe de Razis and into Vars, there’s some steeper terrain – including some challenging off piste from the summit of Chabrieres.

Most accommodation is a stone’s throw from the slopes so is very convenient and family-friendly. Away from the slopes there’s not a huge amount to do, but there’s a decent number of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained in the evening. Grenoble is the closest airport, with the drive still taking around 3 hours. Nice and Lyon are around 4 hours away by car.

After a good couple of weeks for the French Alps, things settle down through this week as high pressure brings fine, dry and bright conditions to the region.

Temperatures will be warm, with the freezing line dropping only to 2,500m overnight and climbing as high as 3,500m in the midday sun. A rare flutter of cloud could move in over on Friday and Sunday, but otherwise spring is firmly here in the French Alps.

A couple of flurries of snow could fall early next week as the freezing line drops in to the new week, but it remains a bit too early to tell exactly how much, when, and where this might fall.
