However, when four new gondolas were built in 2016/17 to link it to the rest of the Ski Arlberg area and the resorts of Lech and Zรผrs, the options multiplied. It is now part of Austriaโs largest linked ski area, is located in one of the snowiest corners of the Alps and has something for everyone โ whatโs not to like? St Anton is a big resort town, spreading out along the valley. There are accommodation options for most budgets, but the closer you stay to the action and the Galzigbahn, the more expensive your room is likely to be. Aprรจs ski is a major attraction here and in the form of Mooserwirt and the Krazy Kangaruh, St Anton has two of the worldโs most famous post-skiing bars.
With so many pistes โ not to mention the additional 200km of marked ski routes in the region โ to explore, youโll never be short of options. Perhaps only absolute beginners will struggle here, although Nasserein has some decent learner facilities. Intermediates can explore the entire Ski Arlberg via the Flexenbahn, opening up a network of wide and snowsure blue and red pistes. Then for experts the options are so numerous โ youโd do very well to cover every route in a season, let alone a week.
This is not an ideal resort for beginners. That being said, the lower village slopes by Nasserein are gentle and offer a decent area for first timers. Progression from this point can be made at Gampen or up on the slopes of Rendl, but this is far from ideal, especially as the slopes can get very crowded. A group with beginners would be better placed to base themselves at Lech or Zรผrs.
Timid intermediates may find some of the blues and gentle reds on the Galzig Mountain a little intimidating due to the number of people using them. Confident intermediates upwards however have the entire Ski Arlberg at their disposal โ weโd recommend the long runs down from either side of the valley above Stuben โ and reaching the far end at Warth-Schrรถcken is well worth attempting.
For 2024/25, St Anton are launching the Arlberg Run of Fame – a ski circuit to match the likes of the Sella Ronda. 85km of runs – a good mix of blues and reds – sets off from St Anton and takes in all six villages of the Arlberg region before winding its way back into St Anton. Don’t miss out on the Hall of Fame itself at the top of the Flexenbahn.
St Anton is undoubtedly one of the worldโs top resorts for expert skiers and boarders, attracting skiers and riders from around the world every winter. The 200km of marked ski routes are avalanche controlled but are not prepared, so head straight to these when they open on a powder day. There are some epic runs off Valluga and down towards Zรผrs, but these should be completed with a guide.
St Anton is a busy, bustling resort with a character-filled main street. This traffic-free centre is the heart of the action and is where most people arrive to after a day on the slopes, hence there are some very lively bars โ but not quite as wild as the Mooserwirt and Krazy Kangaruh further up the hill โ and numerous restaurants. For a quieter stay, there is plenty of affordable accommodation further along the valley โ which is connected by a frequent and very efficient bus service.
There are some great chalets and hotels with a family-friendly reputation, but you may want to base yourself away from the noise of the town centre and closer to the nursery slopes up by Nasserein. The ski schools have a good reputation but the challenging and busy slopes above town may put off absolute beginners.
The action starts on the home run, with Heustadl the first bar that you pass. Below this the two world-famous aprรจs ski bars of Mooserwirt and the Krazy Kangaruh are a must visit โ just get ready to dance on the table and prepare your ears for an overload of Austrian club music. Be careful on the way down as the resort run steepens and can be chaotic in the dark. Then down in town, the bars fill up quickly as the slopes empty โ Base Camp is a great place to start.
Connections to the major resorts of the Arlberg ski area open and close at the same time.
Updated for 2024/25
Ski Arlberg offers one ticket for the whole region, rather than individual resort passes. Whilst the resort does offer significant discounts for skiing outside of the “main season”, the main season covers most of ski season – from 21 December to 4 April. These prices are listed below.

The weekend starts mild across the region, with the freezing line ticking up to 4,000m. This sits under a layer of cloud cover, which will bring with it precipitation; this will fall as snow in many areas, as the freezing line drops from this peak as low as 1,500m over the course of the weekend.
Western areas will see around 12cm of snow, with easterly and southern areas seeing perhaps a foot on Monday along, with another 10cm before and after. This will remain across higher ground, as the freezing line doesn’t dip below 2,000m during this snowy period.
Unsettled conditions continue over the course of this week, with more snow on the way in parts.
Thus concludes our snow overviews for the 2024/25 season; thank you to everyone who has tuned in, and we look forward to seeing you again next season!
