North Peak at Sunday River is arguably home to Maine’s best beginner zone,
starting out with gentle magic carpet slopes and progressing on to longer, winding greens served by the Chondola Express lift. There is also long top to bottom greens elsewhere, making this a great resort for progression. For more advanced skiers and boarders, there’s good long blues and each mountain is home to steep blacks – some of which are left ungroomed for bumps to form. Snow reliability is not usually an issue, thanks to the resort’s 2000 snow machines and you can extend your ski day with night skiing.
Condo accommodation dominates the offering at the resort, but the Jordan Hotel at the foot of Jordan Bowl offers up smart hotel accommodation. Away from the slopes there’s a comprehensive range of winter activities, including snowshoe walking, cross country skiing, ice skating, dog sledding and even ice climbing.
Access is quick from Portland, taking around 1.5 hours, whilst the drive up from Boston takes around 3 hours.
