Forecast today: Generally clear
VT has access to a varied 140km of local slopes, the Orelle Valley โ often considered the โfourth valleyโ of the Three Valleys area โ and via six passes to Mรฉribel and the rest of the 600km of linked pistes that extend to the far end of Courchevel.
The lively resort sits at the head of the Belleville Valley and completely above the treeline, alongside Les Menuires and St Martin de Belleville. These villages provide the perfect option for those looking to escape the bustle of Val Thorens itself, providing a quieter base from which to ski. On clear days, the location lends itself to a truly spectacular panorama, though it sometimes does present a challenge during whiteouts.
High altitude, wide pistes dominate the Val Thorens ski area. This makes it the ideal resort for cruising around on a sunny day, but it can be a challenge when the weather is bad and the cloud is low. The beginner slopes lie right in the heart of the village, whilst the rest of the local slopes are a network of blues and reds โ most of which are a blast first thing in the morning when freshly groomed.
Seen from the slopes, the resort is undoubtedly more attractive than some other French resorts, and it has a really lively ski resort buzz. Buildings are mainly medium-rise and wood-clad, whilst the snow-covered, mostly traffic-free streets add to the atmosphere.
The resort is very convenient for families as the nursery slopes are located right in the heart of the village. There is an excellent sports centre for those bad weather days and the toboggan run is one of the most entertaining in the Alps.
VT has a serious reputation for aprรจs and in Bar 360 and the Folie Douce, the resort has two of the Alpsโ best on slope bars. The ski down from 360 is much easier โ down a green โ so bear this in mind if you have a beginner or an unconfident intermediate in your group. Down in town head to the Frog and Roastbeef or Saloon for the liveliest aprรจs.
Connections to the rest of the Three Vallees network open on 6 December 2024, and close on 21 April 2025.

The Ski Club uses third party independent assessments and accreditation of ski resorts to determine a resort โenvironmentally sustainable” โ more information can be found here.
As part of the French Flocon Vert (tr. Green Snowflake) scheme, Val Thorens โ as part of the wider Belleville commune including St Martin and Les Menuires โ has been awarded one snowflake out of a possible three, representing investment in resources to reduce its environmental impact. Flocon Vert is an independent scheme operated by Mountain Riders, which accredits resorts in France who have met twenty criteria based on environmental, social and economic sustainability.

Warm temperatures start the weekend, with the freezing line hitting 4,000m during the midday sun on Friday. This will fall, however, over the course of the long weekend, eventually hitting 2,000m on Monday evening and staying low throughout the new week.
Cloud will dominate this weekend, and with it will come precipitation. This will begin as rain on Saturday, but as things turn cooler this will turn to snow, with around 5cm falling across the region over Sunday evening, Monday and throughout Tuesday; this will fall on higher ground only as the freezing line remains on or just above 2,000m. High pressure returns in the middle of the week with plenty of fine, dry and bright conditions
Thus concludes this season’s snow overviews; thank you to everyone who has read them this season, and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

I have been a passionate skier since I was first introduced to the sport on a school ski holiday, and I enjoy sharing the passion that I have not just for the sport but for the mountains and the mountain environment.
After university I spent a ski season in Montgenรจvre and in 1995 I qualified as an English Ski Council Club Instructor working part time at the local dry ski slope for two years. Having met my wife in Val dโIsere we moved to Argentiรจre in the Chamonix Valley where we spent an exciting and active two years. Now based near Salon de Provence in France with my family we ski regularly in Serre Chavalier.
Outside of skiing I am rugby coach to the local under 12 team and a keen mountain biker in the Alpilles
I found enthusiasm for skiing, following a school trip to Aufach in Austria. Since then, I have skied most years in Europe. My favourite ski areas are 4 Vallees, Espace Killy & Trois Vallees. Other resorts I have enjoyed include Zermatt, Cortina d'Ampezzo and St Anton.
As well as skiing, I enjoy slogging across the sands of the Surrey Hills on my mountain bike in order to maintain a modicum of fitness. In addition, I enjoy bodyboarding with my family in North Devon/Cornwall.
Outside of leisure time I work as a Chartered Surveyor.
We're still finalising our Reps Programme in this resort for 2025/26 - we hope to confirm our complete programme shortly.
